New system build

Hi everyone, Im new here and im noob in home theater systems and I hope I make this post clear to get best advices.

Basically Im planning to make new Home Theater build, currently using KEF 3005SE 5.1.2 system paired with Yamaha A1060 and they simply exceeded my expectations past 10 years, my brother bought the best Klipsch 7.1.2 system out there just 2 months ago and for some reason I prefer these KEF despite how old they are and how small compared to floorstanding of Klipsch, what made them great for me is that they feel more alive and balanced, all the movie effects sounds more dynamic and the Bass is simply magneficent, It doesnt feel like you have speakers or Subwoofer, it feels like the bassy sound all gathering into my body and smashing me.......... Now you know why im in love with KEF.

My Usage is 70% Movies 20% Anime 10% gaming and music, my room is tiny, size is 10 X 12 feet only, the reason I decided to upgrade cause I felt like my system is OLD and I wanted to pair new speakers system with the new Avegant series Yamaha receiver like A2A, budget wise doesnt matter to me (as long as it improves sound experience) and space wise I cant fit floorstanding speakers due to table design (anyway from my knowledge I gathered I heard Bookshelves outperform floorstanding speakers in movie watching), Currently only options I got interested in is KEF Q150 or Q350 system with Q650C (Since I liked KEF so much), and BMR speakers which I recently heard about that are superior in everyway.

Any advices? I would appreciate your help than throw money around since I dont have much knowledge

Is your brother's system in the same size room as yours? The room has a great influence on the sound, and a set of small speakers in a small room is better than the small speakers in a large room to an extent, too. Some don't particularly care for Klipsch speakers generally, too (I'm one altho some of their newer releases seems to have resolved some of the issues). He may not have integrated the setup as well as yours, too. Hard to know just by the brand of speakers involved in any case.

If you like your speakers that is great, so you don't need to go spending money on them. Likewise, your Yamaha 1060 is just fine, the newer avr may have some new audio features, but as far as general sound quality, nah. Save money there too if you don't need the feature set of a newer avr.

If you want to improve sound quality speakers/subs and paying attention to setup/room acoustics is the best use of your money (compared to electronics). I don't think I've ever seen a negative comment about the BMRs (or Dennis' work in general), can't say as much for KEF across the board.

I didnt pay much attention to room acoustics much tbh, I do have some panels installed on empty walls of the room to reduce some echo, as for speakers if I had any complains it will be vocals in movies when theres action going on vocals become not clear at all and hard to hear them properly, I raised dialogue level but still its not clear not volume wise but quality wise (I dont know what to blame at this point I tried many things) and other complain I have is some high frequency effects sounds a bit harsh on ears, I used YPAO using 8 locations to improve accuracy it keeps giving my speakers Large configuration, currently running them at 80hz Small, but kept rest of stuff the same since distance looked accurate to me.

Thats why I decided to upgrade speakers I thought maybe new KEF Q Series will give me more of the same and better clarity but not sure if difference is huge, cause Im not sure how good 3005SE system compared to today offerings.

Not familiar with KEF personally, but glancing at what you have now seems perhaps a larger set of drivers just may bring some benefits. Certainly a better sub than that set has would be something I'd want. Overall the 3005 looks like a decent set, tho, particularly for a room your size I'd think it'd do well.

I didnt think about new Sub since my room is small and the bass is very strong in this system despite how small it looks, my wife got scared from the amount of bass shaking she got in her seat despite bass level set by YPAO at -2DB and I trimmed it down another 2db, also the sub have +6 and +12 setting and I set it to 0db, but I wanted to improve bass response even further so I thought adding 2nd Subwoofer, does it have to be same type of Sub? Or I can add another SVS 2000 or PB3000 to the system without issues?

As for speakers since my room is very small, my ears are very close to surround speakers, and from reviews I heard main selling points of KEF Q series and BMR speakers are wide soundstage (which should make sound less pointy and more room filling).

Currently having 7 speakers actually but using 2 of those KEF speakers as front heights for Atmos, they do decent job but it seems they are not designed to do that, I didnt go in this room for 7.1 setup because my A1060 Virtual surround back feature really works well, it does sound like theres physical speakers behind me despite my seating position is 15cm from rear wall.

Is it a problem if speakers wall mounted? Also will it be an issue if ear level is only 0.8-1 meters from one of surrounds?

In a small room a small sub can be okay, depends on what you want out of it. In my bedroom, similar in size to yours, I use a pair of 12" subs but I only have myself to worry about how scary it can be (and use much larger subs in my main room, but the room volume is much greater). Second sub doesn't need to add to the quantity, altho it will a bit naturally depending on placement, but the real advantage of a second sub is smoothing the room modes that subwoofers and small rooms inevitably have to deal with. I'd prefer a sub that is very similar in response/design if adding a second sub....

Wall mounting you'd likely want sealed or at least front ported speakers designed for such placement. There are some out there altho off the top of my head can't think of any particular models but believe KEF does have something still along those lines.....

Seems your speaker set is working well for you/your wife, tho.
