I get my Kefs early Saturday morning. Gotta decide what vinyl to spin first! Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Elton John's Honky Chateau, Paul Simon's There Goes Rhymin' Simon, Leon Russel's s/t, Dusty in Memphis half-speed master, King Crimson's Court of the Crimson King, Maybe The Steven Wilson Remix of Jethro Tull Aqualung. Which one of these would @TLS Guy appreciate!!? ha

I've decided to play Bob Dylan's "Oh Mercy", which is a beautifully produced record with a great groove, a lot of percussion and funk. It was number 44 in Rolling Stone's top 100 albums of the 80's.

Got 'em set up! Sounds great. AVR set to direct. Tons o' bass! Over-all, sounds clear as can be!
Yeah, my center speaker wire is a couple feet too short. I'll do something about that.
I had to open the door to get some decent lighting for the shot.
I'll try grills-on to see what I like best.

Looks great, except for that Bob Dylan album messing up your shot. :)
JK, but I cannot stand BD. He can write music but as a performer he is nails on a chalk board to me. I will admit there are much worse out there than BD however.

Very nice.

I haven't been a big fan of KEF's finish selections for the R line but those do look pretty good in that pic.

Glad to hear that they're living up to expectations as well.

To answer your question, none- he's a classical listener.

If you listen to Court of the Crimson King, pay attention to the drums around 7:57- the distortion isn't the new speakers.

Do you not know that that was said in jest? He said a while back to bring some albums of stuff I'd like to hear on a couple of his awesome systems. I had The Kinks "Lola vs. Powerman" with me and wanted him to put on "Rats". I told him it was rock and roll number. I believe he said "oh boy". Ha.

Prefer this? Playing some ELO at the moment.
I will have to come over and give those a listen. You are right no to toe the mains in.

In so many ways coaxial speakers are ideal for HT especially the center. However there is one problem with them. That is that the axis response is invariably worse than the off axis response. This is because of cancellation from identical time path reflections of the tweeter response from the outer cone. causing cancellations and nulls in the response especially. Paul Klipsch wrote about this in his classic AES paper back around sixty years ago.

I had this in my center with its SEAS coaxial drivers. So I had a substantial center null centered on 9K. However I had the fill driver above it for BSC which is variable as it is actively bi-amped. The tweeter in the fill driver was not used. So I designed and built a circuit to use the tweeter in the fill driver to correct the null. Truthfully, much to my surprise, but satisfaction it worked perfectly. Which was a good thing, as you generally don't listen to a center speaker off axis.

It'd be great to have you hear them! Give a holler when you want to stop by.

But more basic finishes save a lot of money.
