Well this is unfortunate , I won’t receive my new receiver till July 6. I wasn’t aware it took over a few weeks to get here , but apparently it’s shipped from the US .
Talked to support to see if I could cancel the order , and although it has not been picked up for shipment yet , it can’t be cancelled according to Denon support .
‘Hopefully it’s worth the wait , but if I knew this I would have picked a lesser model up on my trip to the city this weekend . I say a lower model as stores don’t seem to carry higher end models unless you order them, so your back to square one

That's not a very long wait. I've waited over 5 months for amp kits that I then had to build, to become available. Then there's sourcing discreet parts and speaker drivers across two or three suppliers and then waiting for things to trickle in. I enjoy the anticipatory aspect of this hobby. Like a kid waiting for Christmas.

I have multiple 'Plan B' sources to keep me entertained. As it stands, the new stuff still has to compete with what I already have so as not to be a step back. With that said, I should also mention that having plan Bs in this hobby, often causes not buying anything or putting it off for extended periods of time.

Seems Canada has a bit less choice than we do down here in the states. I'm in the far west and surrounded by forest, so virtually nothing in the way of a well stocked audio store....

Ya it’s not their fault I'm just an impatient man lol . I was going to order from Anthem as they’re in Canada , could have probably cut a week off of shipping .

If I wasn’t so concerned about fan noise I would have gone with them , but Denon won out . I can actually hear my Anthem amplifier hum from 10.5’ away from where I sit . Only on quiet passages , but it’s there .
The funny part is the hearing specialist was trying to talk me into hearing aids . My friend is 30 years younger than me and a real audio file . He using Arcam exclusively, and he cannot hear the hum I’m describing from my amplifier, even with his head a few inches from it .
I used to have a PVR , and the HD grinding away used to drive me nuts , and I was sitting 16.5’ away from it .
I got my boss to have listen , and he went right up to it and had no idea what I was talking about .
So thats the reason behind why I don’t buy gear that have fans in them . My old Marantz 5 channel amp had fans , but they only came on twice when I was straining the system hard .

Guys I’ve got a new idea . I am a big fan of Anthem , and they have a sale on right now .
I’m thinking about buying their AMV70 processor , and using the Cambridge receiver as the amplifier. The Cambridge cxa80 does have an XLR balanced input , so I could set it to direct which would bypass treble/base etc ,but I’d have another volume control to contend with . I’m assuming using its balanced inputs bypasses its internal DAC?
I feel this may be an option instead of discarding a basically new amplifier ,at least for now .
Thought’s

With an integrated amplifier that has its own preamp, you shouldn't need an additional preamp.

There’s no high pass filter on the Cambridge. That is my problem right now as I don’t want full range going to my small speakers .

A preamp has no bass management for a subwoofer. Aren't you waiting to receive a Denon receiver as this has the proper high/low pass filters to provide for subwoofer use. That's what you need, not a preamp.

TLS Guy mentioned what you exactly need with post #20 and you keep ignoring it.

Yes you’re correct I ordered the Denon . I’m going to send it back , and in realty it would have done everything I wanted .
Also I could have ordered the Denon 1800 and saved over half my money , as from what I’m reading you’re paying over double for a few extra watts . The 1800 is on sale right now for $799 . It’s probably what I should have done .

As for that Anthem pre pro I’m pretty sure it does crossover management, and maybe in the future I’ll have the opportunity to purchase their 5 channel amp . But for now it sure would be nice if the Cambridge would work as an external amplifier.
I was also looking at Anthems MRX 540 receiver , but I’m concerned about fan noise

Well back the drawing board . I‘m sticking with the Denon , but I ordered the much cheaper version , the 1800 .
Not seeing much of an advantage with the 2800 other than 15 watts a channel increase . The 1800 appears to have all the same features otherwise .
It‘s when you go to the 3800 you see an upgrade like pre outs etc . I think the only disappointment with Denon is the remote . Anthem has quick access to your subwoofer level etc , where as I don’t believe you can change the gains quickly on the Denon .
Sometimes I find songs need to be quickly changed , as there bass can be excessive.
My idea of a pre pro and separate amp is certainly overkill for my gyms stereo system though , and I will have less control over the high pass crossover settings with the Antyen unless I cough up enough money for another amplifier

Try the option button on the Denon remote for channel level adjust, mine allows for subs and front l/r.

Not all Denon AVRs allow for sub level however. My 3700H doesn't but in my case, it's most likely because I don't use the LFE option.

My subs are in each of the front speaker cabinets with proper active bi-amplification.

Yes can vary with model, the one I cited was my 4700. I seem to remember my 4520 having a sub adjust option, but it's not connected at the moment. It's easy enough to go into setup-audio-subwoofer level adjust on the 4700 as well.

I think you are hearing it from all of us to avoid products from that Voxx/Sharp outfit. They have always been bottom feeders.

Just for fun I set all speakers to "large" and the sub adjustments disappeared from both the option and audio menus.

Guys I’m curious as to how you stream your music off a NAS drive with Denon ?Upstairs I stream right now on my anthem AVM60 pre pro using their PlayFi App on my Ipad.
I’m not sure if I’m understanding this correctly , but does Denon have its own app that you can use on an IPad , or do you have to use some paid service to stream your own music ?
I’m just trying to stream my CD’s that I ripped onto a NAS drive in WAV 44.1.

Active bi-amplification is the only valuable type, whereas passive bi-amplification is a waste of time and money, so is bi-wiring.

Let me be specific about it, active bi-amplification is a must when you need a low pass filter frequency under 400 hertz. Otherwise, a passive crossover at such low frequencies requires a high value inductor in series with the woofer or sub. This implies a high resistance which would annul the damping effect of any amplifier having a low output resistance, and result in poor transient response.
