This is my very first post, happy to join the community (long time lurker). So I’m putting in a 7.1.4 system and need an AVR to drive it. I’m limited to Denon, Marantz Cinema 50 only, or technically Athem as they are the only AVRs that can fit in my media cabinet (16” D). I’m primarily focused on the D&M options. The choices as I see it are:
1) the aging x6700h as a single box solution ($3k)
2) the x4800h as a processor with an 11 channel BasX A11 ($3800)
3) the Cinema 50 as a processor with an 11 channel BasX A11 ($3800)
4) wait four weeks till CEDIA 23 when x6800h might be announced ($ unknown, availability unknown)
5) something you all know that I’m clearly missing

Speakers are all efficient LCR 94dB 4ohm 20-140 watt recommended, surround and heights 89dB 4ohm 20-200 watt recommended. The only other thing is my AVR will be out in the open, so I will give an extra point to Marantz for cosmetics all other things being equal. And I do game on an PS5, but it’s my only HDMI 2.1 device at the moment. All thoughts are welcome!

Welcome!

1) The X6700H, if brand new with factory warranty, then $3K seems fair, and can be a good choice if the price is lower.
2) The X4800H, if you are in the US, should be around $2,500 or less when on sale.
3) Cinema 50 is comparable to the X3800H, not the X4800H. In the US/Canada, they are over priced, relative to Europe and Asia's selling prices.
4) If you can wait, it is better to wait for sure, at least see what happens around Christmas time.
5) Nothing really, since you are limited to D+M and Anthem.

6700 should be all you need. Have one that ran 11 4 ohm speakers, worst case if you listen very, very loud. Add a 3 channel amp to the front 3 speakers. If the front 3 at 94db efficiency I can't see why you need separate amps but the option is there. (I use separates on all channels comming out of the 6700 but thats because they are 4 ohm and makes me comfortable cranking it and that was really not necessary. the receiver worked fine.

I recently purchased a Marantz SR6017, I had the option of a Cinema 50 but it was going to cost me another $1,000.00 so it was a no brainier, besides the new Marantz models do not have the 7.1 Analog in that I like to use from my Oppo UDP205.
As for what it sounds like well compared to my old SR6007 and my Pioneer SC-LX57 its like darkness and daylight, I cannot tell you in words just how good this thing is I love it.
