my very modest music listening space

this is the area of my bedroom where i listen to records and sometimes music from my laptop.

the equipment:
yamaha r-9 stereo reciever
pioneer pl-707 tt
adcom crosscoil cartridge and stylus
sony floor standing 3 ways (not sure of the model)

i am very pleased with the turntable, and the reciever is from around the same era so i guess they match pretty well but i would still like to upgrade. the speakers leave a lot to be desired. i am looking for a pair of vintage speakers to match the system. maybe some acoustic research or even old klipsch might suit. any ideas or suggestions?

All kinds of them. They usually go like picking a budget and then focusing on speakers in that range. Listen to them if you can to help you decide. AH has had a few speaker shoot outs that you can read about or just take my word for it and buy some Infinitiy Primus speakers from the Harman Audio store on eBay.

There's something about that space that seems very relaxing.

thanks! my bedroom is quite relaxing. 20'x30'. it used to sleep more than 8 firefighters. in case you wondered, I live in an old fire station. i have 10 doors, 7 are closets, one is the entrance, and one is the fire pole/ insurance nightmare.

it looks like my turntable and receiver produce very detailed and sometimes fatiguing sound. i think i should go with a set of "laid back" speakers. maybe ar-3a or something similar. with soft dome tweets and soft mid range speakers. i am really looking for something pre-1990. early 80s or 70s is preferable since that is the time period where most of my favorite music and my equipment was made.

one question:
can i be nostalgic, even if i wasnt alive to experience this equipment and music when it was new?

Hey, I remember your room now. You cleaned it up...a lot. It looks way better now.

and no, i pay LESS for that vintage sound. this entire system cost me $30.

the turntable and extra NOS cartridge and stylus were $5 at a yard sale
the speakers were $15, yard sale
and the receiver was a hand-me-down from a friend.
cables, etc... $10

Not bad at all. With old speakers you have to watch out because stuff doesn't last forever. Somewhere I read that 20 year old speakers were right about at the edge of usability but 30 years was beyond hope. It kind of sounds like you're gonna go with whatever falls in your lap.

The main thing is that you enjoy it and thanks for sharing the pic's.

eh.. what falls might be a bit of a stretch. i resell most of what i find at yard sales. there is a set of paradigm mini monitors and a set of ar3a's for sale in town. i am considering both. although i think the paradigms might be a bit small for my room.

its time for me to buy a good set of speaks!!!
