Looking up for the wiring diagram for the Sony SDDS DFP-D3000 remote fader. There is a remote fader made for the processor but haven't seen one for sale. So I can use a 100k ohm variable resistor so I can join two D3000 together.

Ordered a 100k variable resistor (linear).

With the right drill bit I could modify the Dolby remote fader to have two fader knobs one for the Dolby CP65 the other for two Sony D3000. There is some space on the back PCB between the wiring terminal blocks that I can fit a second variable resistor.

Side by side view that Onkyo was a huge tank! It weighs a bit as well, The Marantz 6012 weighs in far less and less in size as well and its in black as well.

I wonder the extra boards inside the Onkyo as good as the ones in the Marantz as technologies change they get more advanced and smaller.

Marnatz 6012 in place and now I have to neatly as possible re-plug cables and do some wiring on the other SDDS decoder as well this is the longest part of the task so going to take me maybe least 12AM tonight when its finished that's my target I see if I can beat that time...

All set-up and running just before midnight. Now I have to get the leads made up for other Sony SDDS processor and re-plug the system again.

I only have the pre-outputs in use the usual 8channels is running though the first SDDS processor to other Dolby processors and local fader.

The "cyber overhead tron" speakers have been re-wired and only at present have x4 RCA connected to my two vintage x2 Marantz 1050 amplifiers. So if I use the local fader I can fade down the LCR or five screen channels along with side and rear surrounds and LFE.1, I have to get everything synced so I can use one fader to control. Sure there is the volume dial on the AVR but that depresses me :( and I rather feel the vintage Dolby fader dial controlling the system.

Also there is no record output on the Marantz 6012 so I'm going to have to hammer out an idea so I can still keep the Dolby CP500 in operation for vintage Dolby Stereo matrix.

I not given a fully listening to the Marantz 6012 own Dolby surround matrix with "Star Trek the motion picture" laserdisc pressing on DVD-RW yet to see if I like it or if I am going to pick at it?

Currently have San Andreas (2015) bluray repeating chapter 4 and 5 while only listening to the front/back overhead surrounds which only carries sound effects no music mix in the overheads sounds typical to some early films I heard on DVD that only carried mono sound effects on 5.1 or some dts-ES 6.1 with mono rear discrete on some films carrying only sound effects and 7.1 which I noticed some early titles I brought only carried sound effects other films carried sound effects and difference in music.

The overhead surrounds on San Andreas carries no warning as and when they sound loudly! But its noticeably detectable with the JBL control 5 above now running with Dolby Atmos. I can sense movement easily at front left seat with left front overhead above me and easily pick out the other speakers with trained ear listening.

I'm starting to suss it all out and have a few extra back of tricks up my sleeve that I shall experiment with over the next few days once I finished getting the other SDDS processor up and running.

I have used cable ties to hold the cables together its looking or starting to look a bit neater. I'll get one of those cable management things that you screw to the wall so I can tidy up the birds nest of cables hanging over near the door.

Trying Mad Max road fury (2015)
Dolby Atmos five-screen / 4 zone side/rear surrounds / 4 zone overhead front/back surrounds / below matrix surround 1 / subs .2 / Lucasfilm Ltd THX Sound System / JBL x95 speakers.

Music and sound effects carries though the overhead surrounds unlike San Andres (2015) where only sound effects is carried though the overhead surrounds.

Extra surrounds will be wired in soon as I get the DB-25 tested on the second Sony SDDS all the system channels synced with Dolby remote fader.

The repeated musical sound in the Marnatz is nice feature when first setting up the AVR to confirm all the channels are working correctly.

The setting up I practically followed the Marantz on-screen features relatively easy. The odd inputs I had to use for Laserdisc player and its optical for pcm and dts and coaxial for Dolby AC-3 thou I hope the settings are in proper assignment place thou not tried the Pioneer DVL-909 yet I can see that the on-screen graphic appeared on the screen. The HD-DVD player is set-up as well as the other bluray players.

Set all the JBL at LARGE.

The compression modes high med low and off of course would be full dynamic range. The med compression being used at present is relaxing.

During chapter 6 repeated many times its a cool sounding scene. Sounds of sliding a roof over on the truck sounded convincing on overhead front as well as partly in across the five-screen centre (faintly) got have fast crackerjack hearing to hear these sounds.

38197319_10156403877720149_545325499287601152_n.jpg

The ISF is nice feature.

I'm starting to like the design of this Marnatz 6012. Would have liked to have gone for the Denon 13.2 but 11.2 is more than sound exciting.

The wi-fi is all up and running. The only thing I don't have is these Apple ipad touch screen apps. So may have to get one that is cheap.

Not sure how the dtsx sounds? Don't have a single disc with dtsx and it appears to be not a high seller on the market but there are some films that I may look at to see if I would buy one to try out?

I only a few Dolby Atmos titles as some of the blockbusters was not all my cup of tea.

Checking the circuit track as I knew two tracks are going to get cut though not a snag I just solder wires from the pins and bridge the broken tracks.
6.jpg

Holding it up to the light for a transparent view.
7.jpg

Found a metal drill bit that fitted the hold used for the Dolby fader great. its a go, no, go for drilling. I can't believe I'm doing this as I never done this sort of drilling not since yonger days doing PCB assembly 32 years ago but only seems like few m/s ago with me and that is really how it is. We are only using borrowed time but its how use it in our lives.

All soldered up and ready for sound listening exciting action.

GRAVITY (2013)
Dolby Atmos five-screen 5 / 4 / 4 / below matrix surround (with the other channels that I can still expand with maybe today if weather is cooler) .1 split into two 2 / how many so far channels is that? 16 channels and I sussed out the Atmos with listening and watching the continuity of where its moving or should be so I think I can expand greatly or push comes to shove maybe a cheap CP850 as they are now showing up on ebay at cheap prices.

Lucasfilm THX sound system / JBL professional x95 speakers I don't know of anyone using that many in the home?

The dialouge panning on GRAVITY is still by far thee most I have listened to in any film in history and I doubt any film before end of this decade will equal or surpass it.

23.jpg
24.jpg

Also had to re-plug the left-centre right-center last night so its passing though the extra Sony D3000 so the Sony D3000 remote fader can control it as it was connected to the Dolby remote fader... does that sound confusing if so this hobby isn't for you stick with a 5.1 speakers its far easier. :D

I still have to wire up the other sub channel thou not sure what is point as that is a mono LFE.1 channel so can't get much extra use out of that unless they expanded it so it can have LFE. - sharing half the audio spectrum with upper mid bass to highs with crossover to divide the signal.

I can expand those 4 extra discrete channels used for overheads to at least 5 channels each with two cheap AVR's in the kitchen or use another option with cheap Dolby CP45 again or SA10 as the prices on them are dropping and they are basically the Dolby CP45 that has been stripped down but that will only give me 2 channels each to expand with plus the SW summed from the main input signal plus it has built-in L-R crossovers 800/500 and EQ's and other inputs to re-wire other configurations.

Star Trek into Darkness (2013)

I hate this film so much I like roasting it. I mean please don't blame me its not really STAR TREK it just has jar jar abrams star trek title on it and we are surprised to what embrace it? I think not. Its plain and simple abomination.

The picture not much to say it has rotten annoying fake imax (coughing wash my mouth out with a bar of soap) I meant to say, "LIEMAX" aspect switching that is as pointless than all the lens flares. The colour is just horrid on this film and on star trek. That is simply colour light and shadow that I just do not see in the natural real world. Original STAR TREK films have better colour.

Now on with sound as that is what this forum is all about "keep on listening". It has captain spunker kirk on chapter 6 voice, front overhead right then few moments pans to, front overhead right. I recall that clear as a bell at front row and centre line of the Empire Leicester Square on its first day national release.

Of course I saw it twice only to see if this Atmos is as good as its says it is? I saw it lastly in middle row circle centre line or the VIP seating which is all the same rocker seats. Yeah again hear captain spunker overhead and hearing bit differences in the side wall back wall surrounds with certain sounds being positioned about. One sound I think it was an interior short on that "black starship" with sound that was placed along the middle right surround arrays that was cleaver. It was a hollow like mechanical sound.

While sat in middle circle during last time of listening to the end credits I simply found myself responding and participating with the sound (well I have always been like that) I take notice of it! I could hear it over the screen channels the sides moving along the front to back and overhead surrounds. Almost made me feel dizzy but I managed to store that huge sound data file etched onto my memory cells.

2.jpg

Picture above manual mode on the camera with flash on.
Pictures below camera mode manual with some in custom mode with flash off.

3.jpg

Manual mode of what the dire colour looks like sea sick puke!

4.jpg

Switched to custom mode WOW that if not looks lot better and why can't they use the same features as my camera on the rotten blu-UHD player to fix dire colour being used by these directors today as rotten colour I can not tolerate it and I can not strees that any clearer!

5.jpg

Custom mode. Oh no! Its fake imax (coughing) LIEMAX! Where is my vomit bucket? The sky looks firing full of colour wow its almost better than Dolby vision. The more things change. The more they stay the same.

6.jpg

Manual mode with rubbish colour.

Its the cat litter for this rubbish film as the LIEMAX vexed and made me red face angry! To think that imax corp gutted up the British EMPIRE 1 Empire Leicester Square ruined a cinema to which I will no longer travel to london or go near london with a barge pole. I don't want to see LIEMAX I don't want to read or hear about LIEMAX and I certainly don't want to smell LIEMAX.

Researching potentiometer trimpots and thought I'd give the Bourns trimpot 3006 103 5k a try but gosh oh mighty they not cheap for each one and going need for a small basic for the channels I have in mind x22 and that is just for starters.

Multi channel amplifiers. Thinking about it, maybe, maybe, it comes down cost of the product Class A B or D class better. How many channels? The Dolby multi channel 16 channels (DMA16301), 24 channels (DMA24300), or 32 channels (DMA32300), are few grand for the smaller models and few grand more for the DMA32300, 32 channel.
Plus its only going to be usual with a Dolby CP850 with Ethernet INPUT OUTPUT not to be confused with internet.

The AVR's used in the kitchen are just taller in height some mostly at 4U frame that only have 5 or 7 internal amplifiers when used in multi channel INPUT mode that bypass the DSP surround processing.

There lot of manufactures that have been at this for years and as years go along newer models with class-D appear at cheaper prices still some using class-AB design and I figure its push comes to shove with the budget and needs.

The needs of many outweigh. Cost for amplifier output some 40watts others 100watts and more is only ideal for high efficiency matched LCR speakers such as PA type or cinema type smaller sizes or large as kilowatts per screen speaker isn't needed. Ideal also for surround arrays in closer proximity maybe ideal for subs depending how one designs the system in the home but feel more at easy with higher power class D it depends on "the needs of many"?

Also fan type be best placed in another room so fan noise isn't heard otherwise its going to reduce the noise floor if a quiet room at 30db or less and amps with fans running its going to raise the SPL level up and softer quiet moments on film soundtrack or music will have to be played a few db higher level.

Oh well forget about the Dolby 32 amp it has no analouge input its £12 grand and needs to run with Dolby CP850 no way of cutting corners around it thou I could buy one but rather like the 32 amp in the 4U frame sounds neat and tidy with less rack space being used up.

Crown do 8ch but they need to run with additional remote device connected to the pc. crown dci 8 600da price £8.4 grand and x5 needed no way £42 grand. Seems like continue buying Behringer inuke or the newer model NX Series I think Behringer is releasing again NX Series 4ch only later in the year? But 4ch in 2U frame is going to take up a lot of rack space to get over 44 channels. Yet my CB radios small in size have 120 to 200 channels. The sat dig box has I think 400 or 500 channels. What gives?

High Efficiency PA speakers only need in the home least 100watts more than adequate yet the 12channel https://www.htd.com/DMA-1275 $1.2 grand / UK £931.00 . x4 of them 48 channels £3.7 grand still lot less but home cinema would have to run High Efficiency PA speakers for LCR and surrounds doesn't matter they be so close/near to the seating ain't going to need hundreds of watts but how good is the transformer on this Class AB?

Lots of options of possibilities no hurry or rush I shall be patient and wait.

I must have now looked at 30 or more pages of multi zone channel amplifiers. All diffrent designs and U frame heights, Class AB, D even class H, didn't know of that one I guess there is class Z? :D Well maybe one day when the Area-51 Aliens gives us their technology.

Onkyo PA-MC5500 THX-Ultra2 9 channel. They should have made it an even round number of 10 otherwise if I saw these cheaply I'd need.

x1 for partly the 5 screen channels that's 9 channels and 2nd one to finish off the 10 amps for the LF HF of x5. The remaining 8 channels on the 2nd amp could be used for the x8 sidewall back wall surrounds.

3rd one for overhead surrounds x4 plus anyThing additional that I could matrix off the overhead for middle ceiling phantom sound image? Or use the remaining x4 for the blow surround channels.

4th one for bass shakers x6 the remaining x2 channels sure I can think of someThing?

That's 36 channels at $1.6 grand, x4 $6.4 grand but sure one day be cheap as a family fish & chips take-away.
