I just got done from having another set of X-Rays done on my ankle. The D.A. called to find-out what happened at the accident because the cage driver is trying to have her ticket thrown-out! This would negate her insurance company from having to pay anything! So I called an injury lawyer, now get this:

NY state 'No Fault' insurance does NOT consider a motorcycle a motor-vehicle. Basically their insurance could likely not have to pay for anything and I'll be stuck with $10,000+ in worthless wrecked motorcycle and multiple hospital visits.

I am so angry right now. The insurance system is completely F'ed. Why do I have to pay for it if they won't even cover me? I'm going to see the lawyer on Friday, so I hope he has some better news for me.
Wow, thats total BS!

Stick it to her, break her legs! ..... metaphorically.

That's weak, however it opens her up to a lawsuit by you if her insurance doesn't cover it, which could be far more expensive for her (what a dunce). Didn't you say she "admitted" that it was her fault? Do you have any witnesses to substantiate that, especially a law officer? If so, it is an open and shut case.

I had something very similar happen to me in a car a long time ago: Moron was talking on his phone waiting to make a left turn across my lane. It is 8:00 in the morning and perfect visibility for as far as you can see and here I come in a bright red car with no obstructions. I see the guy start to go just as I get to the intersection (no light, no stop sign) and I'm thinking "No way, he can't possibly be going..." and he DID. I t-boned him hard at about a 45 degree angle, right in the passenger door. It crushed the passenger door all the way to the driver's seat, thank goodness he didn't have a passenger. I was sent to the hospital as a precaution, however I was relatively uninjured - a full seatbelt bruise around my waist and chest, cut knee from hitting the dash, and a few scratches, but otherwise fine aside from some pain. The guy who was sitting behind him in the turning lane stopped and gave me his business card and said "I saw the whole thing, it was totally his fault. I couldn't believe it when I saw him go, because even I could see you coming!" A few days later, I get a call from his insurance and they offer me $500 to settle the claim. I laughed and said my car is totaled, I have medical bills, and I was out of work for a few days - you think $500 will cover THAT? Not likely. I told them, I don't want money, just cover everything as if it never happened - I need a replacement for my car or money to replace it, and pay my medical bills - completely reasonable in my mind. They refused and started an investigation. They asked many questions trying to trick me into somehow admitting that I was at fault  "So, you were late for work that day and you were speeding...?" Then we get to the point where they asked if there were any witnesses, and I gave them the info of the guy who stopped. They called him, then called me back singing a whole new tune...what a surprise. In the end, I didn't have to sue anyone, they just paid out a big enough settlement to me and I replaced my car and paid my bills. My insurance was never involved except for the moron's insurance paying my deductible.

So, what about your insurance? In the event of something like this, you would normally turn it over to your insurance to persue the other insurance company wouldn't you?

That so sucks Ninja man. Get a good Lawyer and fight for all you're worth. How's your neck feel. I bet it's stiff now. These things don't always show up at the time of the accident. Emotions run high and a stiff neck can be overlooked at first. But a few days later it can start to bother you.

nobody will give you any schit about the girl bike (or half-a-harley,
I am only 5'6" (actually 5'6 1/2") so it would actually suite me better for the smaller bike - as well, I don't have 16,000+ dollars for a bike...
So I guess those people that would say this - can stick it where the sun (may shine in their case)
Granted - I am 190lbs....:D

Well, here is the one I went with...
Yes, with that color scheme (red flame job).

(much bigger in person - the pic does not do it justice - I could take better pics of it.:) )

EDIT-Removed pic of bike that I decided not to get (as it was not a great price)
Honda Shadow 750....

The Honda 750 is a nice bike. Get a pair of Vance&Hines 'Cruzers' exhaust and you'll have all the fun of the sportster, without having to go through the assache that is owning an evo-sportster.:D

The lawyer says that her insurance company only has to compensate me to "fair market value" for my bike (sucks). Since that is less than an amazng sum of money, I'll have to have the lawyers really put the screws to them with the personal injury lawsuit.

Too bad. I went back, and was not happy with the price..
So I ended up with this one - delivered to my door.:)

(should be here in a hour - or less)

Vulcan 903cc (it actually made that Honda look like a toy - granted I liked the color sceme)
This is, as it looks - all black.... (0 miles)
It is much bigger than the Harley 1200 Sportster that my friend has..

Cool! I've been on that bike, might I suggest a Mustang® saddle for distance rides?

As for the suit: right now I'm taking daily pictures of the bruises, wounds, and swelling. I'm going to all my docotor follow-ups as scheduled with the hopes of a full recovery and no permenant limp. The lawyers actually have a mathematical formula for pain & suffering and the typical compensation for such things. Thats really kinda morbid if you think about it.

Anyway, I know it'll take months & months to get a settlment (probably a year minimum). In the meantime my wife has to talk me out of buying a new bike next year. And I really like the look of those Moto-Guzzi sport tourers.

Are you talking about the Griso -(I think thats what it is called??)
This one - - (click below)

(EDIT) oh yeah, the bike got here.:)

It is by no means the biggest bike I've owned..
That would be the V65 Sabre 1100 - it was a monster (very similar to the V-Max at 145hp for a semi-cruiser type bike)

Oh, BTW - sorry Ninja. As I have hijacked the thread - but have kept my comments on bikes....

Here is the bike - but sorry, I had it delivered - due to, it was raining today..
So, I have not bought a cover for it yet. (and just had a shower curtain. )

I will by all means have better pics by tomorrow.;)

(is that the style you like - the Moto Guzzi?)
Personally I like street bikes more - but with my injuries I am limited to only cruisers...:(
Also do you have a link for those mustang saddle bags???

Rode the Vulcan for about 5 minutes around my block in the rain - man it drives like you are on a cloud of air.
Belt drive, fuel injection is smooooth.

Anyhow here is the crappy pic (will post a better one later)

From a fellow rider: Been in love with bikes for a few decades myself, owned many, had (loads) of close calls with folks who simply don't appear to see bikes...

I'm getting 'up there' and am considering safety aspects of the sport / hobby: I think that the next bike will have ABS. Have any of you had experience with ABS and perhaps might be able to share stories (PM if necessary to avoid pissing off the original poster for hi-jacking his thread) about the pros or cons of the ABS system on bikes?

brian32672

That was a nasty thing to do: posting an image of a beautiful bike... covered up!

Mustnag makes motorcycle saddles. While the 900 is brand-new this year it is based on the Vulcan 800 Classic. A bike well known for its ability to cause saddlesores after 20 minutes. The easiest fix is to buy a new saddle. Mustang and Corbin are probably your best bets.

If you want saddlebags, you can't go wrong with Willie & Max.

As for Moto-Guzzi, Theres only 1 model I lust for. The rest are certainly OK but I don't think they are anything special. I donb't even ride sportbikes (a shade over 250 ensues I'm wider than most crotch-rockets are tall.), but I just love the Nero Corsa.
And I just learned they no longer make it (limited 2006 model), but the Moto-Guzzi V11 LeMans Nero Corsa is certainly one of two I'm considering, depending on the outcome of my lawsuit.

Last I checked BMW models and the Honda Goldwing were the only bikes to offer linked ABS braking. I don't have any experience with either.

Yeah, most people here know that I will flood the forum with pics....
It was just what I could do (while it was raining).

And even these new pics are terrible, as it is a pain to get on and off the back porch.
And with no room on the porch for correct framing of the pic.
(this is the best I can do for now)

Also, I have not rode a ABS bike. But there are tons of them. Not just the BMW and Goldwing...
Just about every manufacture has at least one ABS bike.
Just depends on what you want and how much $...
The FJR is ABS, the Interceptor has a ABS version, Ducati has a ABS (actually a few I think), as mentioned BMW & the Goldwing, also Triumph has a ABS bike... Etc........
Just depends if you want a cruiser, sport cruiser, sport, etc..

R&R Ninja, thanks for the links - Oops that's what I meant saddle (not so much bags)(yeah, I had already checked out Corbin (as well went to Vance & Hines, Cobra, etc..)
Granted the seat I am happy with - I do need to pick up some bags for a day out (change of clothes & rainsuit)

anyhow, here are a few more pics... (until I get it back out of the porch - then I can do 1 or 2 better pics & next to the Harley.)

That's enough for now - although I have more... (none are any good - since I can't frame it well - on the porch)

Brian - nice bike. I love the tail light/turn signal placement. I'm also a fan of the speedo on the tank.

Get well soon!

Hey 'Ninja,
I mostly lurk around here but wanted to jump in and wish you a speedy recovery. My RD 400 and I met up w/a utility pole in '81 and I can no longer ride as a result. I still love following the sport & hate to hear when someone takes a spill esp. when it's from someone pulling an assinine move like that. Hope ya feel better and enjoy the opiates :)
