If it weren’t for Masimo, you wouldn’t have the awesome AV10, which you love so much.

The old Sound United sold you the AV7706 that you hated so much, while Masimo sold you the AV10 that you love so much.
Your single sentence works better than my multi paragraph one, but I would still add that he should hope that you and I are right, as he also had great things to say about his 7705/7706, the two really are 99% the same, so that means even the AV10, if Masimo is that bad, it may also.............:p

Seriously, I have no life.
for sure.....

Remember years back when 'Goldstar' (cheap Korean manufacturer) needed to upgrade their image ? presto, 'LG' was born...........
It was actually 'Lucky Goldstar', which reminds me of some meals at Asian restaurants- does Happy Family Combo sould familiar?

They had bought Zenith and Sanyo before the name change.

Masimo were atrocious owners and custodians of Sound United. Just educate yourself.
How was Masimo atrocious? :D

Because of the malfunctioning of your AV7706 (which was made BEFORE Masimo even bought Sound United)?

Everybody knows you were singing all kinds of praises about your 7706 until it malfunctioned. Would you like us to quote your praises of the AV7705/7706?

And your AV10 is awesome because Denon/Marantz Japan just ignored Masimo and did whatever they wanted? You seriously think the engineers in Japan just completely ignored their BOSS and did whatever they wanted? They were all willing to lose their nice jobs by doing whatever they wanted? :D

And you don’t think that Masimo loss money because they SPENT too much money toward R&D and support?

Perhaps if Masimo had spent a lot less money on Denon/Marantz, they might have actually made money.

…he also had great things to say about his 7705/7706, the two really are 99% the same, so that means even the AV10, if Masimo is that bad, it may also.............:p
He thinks all the engineers and people at Denon Japan completely ignored Masimo and did whatever they wanted to do, willing to put their careers in jeopardy. :D

Well they managed to reduce the value of the company by three quarters of a million dollars for a start.

I think the Samsung/Harmon purchase will be a pivotal event in the history of audio and AV. You can see that the TV is destined to replace the receiver in the HDMI age and the rise of the active speaker. For most receivers will not be required. This ne reorganization are better placed than any others to grasp this fact.

Also Masimo kept far too many product brands. There absolutely needs to be some rationalization especially in the speaker lines. There also needs to be some rationalization between Denon and Marantz or may be one of them disappear.

You do realize that when companies spend too much money, they tend to lose money?

That’s what happened to Masimo. They spent way too much money on R&D like making the AV20 among the best measured AVP in the world and offering support, which @PENG already mentioned - support that other companies don’t even offer because it costs money. They tried to keep all the brands alive, like you mentioned, instead of CUTTING JOBS and firing half the staffs. They tried to do too much and it cost them too much money.

So you want Samsung/Harman to start significantly cutting costs to increase profits? Get rid of most of the brands by firing half the staffs. Reduce support? Reduce R&D? Cut the number of models down to just one AVP and one AVR that costs $8K?

Maybe make the B&W 800D active with internal amps so that they cost $100K, instead of $50K?

Maybe make the Revel F328be active so the cost costs from $20K to $30K?

If the Marantz AV10 is the best AVP in the world like you think, it is because of all the R&D. You want to cut this R&D and make a lesser AVP?

You think all the consumers who wanted the Revel Salon2 for $22K wanted Samsung to get rid of the Salon2 and replace it with a $20K F328be that looks like a $10K/pr speaker?

I do not want Samsung to turn the $8K Marantz AV20 to another AV7706 and charge $6K.

You saw what Yamaha did? To cut cost, they completely stop making an AVP (CX-A5200). They haven’t even made a new AVR model in like 4 years. Stop R&D. Stop spending money to improve the products. You think Yamaha fans like that cost-saving measure?

Before the AVP 5000 series, when was the last time Yamaha made an AVP? The RX11 and 9 were huge flagship offerings but no AVPs during that period I can recall.

I don't recall any Yamaha AVPs prior to the CX-A5000.

Many of us were hoping they would continue releasing new AVPs or at the very least just continue making the CX-A5200. But they just completely stopped making it.

IMO it has to be related to Yamaha not making enough money on their AVP or even losing money like how Masimo was losing money.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown from them but I've got to imagine Yamaha not going all in on AVPs with just a single option hurt them with the CI market, where most of the products are sold.

My question is, would it be more profitable to just cater to high-end audio Dirac-AVR/AVP + Amps (more expensive, less units sold) than cheaper mass market AVR?

Do what Anthem/Paradigm does?

So Samsung could just do high-end Marantz Dirac-AVP/AVR + High-end B&W + Revel, eliminate Classe, Denon, Polk, Boston, DefTech, etc.?

IOW, eliminate everything that is losing money and just focus on high-end audio, unlike Masimo who kept everything.

Yamaha could do the same, but they seem very stubborn.

With the collapse of brick and mortar AV stores and big box retailers going in a different direction with the younger crowd, Samsung could easily drop Boston and Def Tech. They would keep Denon and Polk as the "better" in the better/best offerings, but we'll see.
