JVC DLA RS46U Warning light with flashing Lamp Light

I have an old set up in the house I purchased, the JVC DLA-RS46U projector made a pop noise then stopped displaying. It currently shows a red Warning light with flashing lamp light. Does anyone have a diagnosis, is it time for a bulb replacement or is there a larger issue? Is it time to just buy a newer projector?

It is either the lamp or the ballast board. Apparently those projectors had bad ballast boards that fail regularly. You can try a new lamp, but if it does not work you can't return it. Depending on your model there are two different boards. They are over $300.00 a pop. So you probably need a bulb anyway now. You might just want to consider replacing the projector.
