Well haven't even opened the box yet but I'll probably have it setup hopefully by wednesday afternoon. It was a hard choice but decided to go with another Sony . Well i'll let you guys know how it goes and hopefully it'll work well with my Pioneer 94

I returned mine(s550) yesterday but not because there was anything wrong with the player:). It came down to a decision between it and the Panny bd55 and it fell 1 vote short:). I acutually had more time with the Sony and found it very easy to use. In fact the sony unit responded better using the remote IMO and I liked the user menu layout better, but in the end I kept the Panny:).

Otherwise enjoy, Bill :D

I have the 94 as well. I'm curious as to why you got the 550 vs the 350 since our receiver decodes everything.

Either way, it works just great. I got mine last week and love it. It looks good next to the other equipment and works flawlessly.

My 550 is due Friday from Abt. They price matched and free shipping, no tax.

Sold my S300 for the upgrade and will use 5.1 analog.

I've been enjoying mine. Especially with the BDs. Kung Fu Panda was a real blast. I'm working on building up my BD collection. SD DVD is better than my old Philips DVD player which is now a dedicated CD player in the system.
I'm running the analog outs, and True HD/ DTS MA tracks sound super (Iron Man, Eragon).

Cool im actually on the way out to do some shopping and then pickup a few blu-ray rentals then going to set up the player. So running everything threw HDMI cables to my 94 I imagine I should let my receiver do the processing im guessing is there any other setting I need to know about to get dolby true DIgital HD sound because on my Sony 300 on my receiver it would either show DTS or just dolby and never say TRUE hd light up on my 94 and I think I tryed about every possible setting THERE WAS .

Set everything to bitstream (may be called something different in Sony BD menu).

Disable auto-flagged DRC when using a TrueHD track. If your Pio receiver is like Gov's, hopefully this only has to be done once.

With my Onkyo 805, I have to disable auto-flagged TrueHD DRC everytime I fire it up.

There is no issue with PCM or DTS-MA.

update

Just a quick update, setup up was simple and i've got dolby true hd lighting up on my receiver. I've got a take care of a few things and then i'll watch a movie or two. I threw in spiderman 3 and the load time was lightning fast compared to my s300 and commands are almost instant atleast seems that way compared to what I was use to. Just the introduction sound and picture looks beautiful. I give ya another update after I watch a few movies tonight. So far so good : )

Im planning on watching spiderman 3 that I just bought from a friend for 3 dollars in blu-ray couldnt pass up that deal even though I already saw it at the theater but the funny part is the sound and picture sucks at the movies and I use to like it but got spoiled with my home theater but periodically i'll go just to see what im not missing lol and it makes me appreciate my setup that sometimes I have a tendency to take for granit . Anyway then I rented ,The Signal, The Ruins unrated, To Kill a King and Zohan. I know these movies probably aren't much on the special effects/ visual aspect probably but its a start. I might not have time to watch them tonight but the rest of the week might be dedicated to movie week lol .

Great player in all respects tested so far

I have had the s550 for about 3 weeks now and have watched several BR movies including Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, Vantage Point, and X-Men 3. I have the player connected to a Denon 3805 via analog, and to a Mitsubishi CRT based Diamond Series 65" TV via HDMI to DVI. Both DTS MA and Dolby True HD are scintillating. The picture is outstanding; clear vivid and bright. I have been waiting for a player capable of decoding the newer audio codecs with analog outputs for under $400. My decision came down to this Sony, the Panasonic DMP-BD55, or the Samsunp BE-P2500. The 2500 does not yet decode MA, and may never be able to do so from what I have read. I decided on the Sony mainly because it was carried by a merchant with whom I've done business for 40 years. Although I'm certain the Panasonic would have been an equally good choice, I am positively delighted with the Sony, and would recommend it to anyone with an older generation receiver/pre-pro.

Quick question and I apologize it may seem to be a stupid question but on the audio setup do I want multichannel analog in the audio output priority setting or is that for when your not running everything threw a HDMI cable like I am, Because I Noticed in order to do the speaker setting option like large or small and distance ect it wont let you unless your in that mode"multichanel analog" . I know my speaker distances and size are already setup threw my pioneer but I was just curious if I still needed to do that with my sony bd player also. Everything sounds amazing and I beleive i've got it pretty much dialed in but thats just something that was on my mind . Thanks in advance.

I'm using a 3805 via analog and it sounds awesome, but how do we know what signal is being outputed? My receiver just shows multi and analog and I wonder if yours displays the same .
PS: It may be worth the money one day just to see that displayed:D.
Regards, Bill :)

I believe the mutichannel is only for analog. Since you're using HDMI just bitstream everything from the s550 to your reciever. The setting in the players are IMO basically futile, just use the setting you've already calibrated in your receiver.:)

I recently returned the S550 because I could not make it advance frame by frame in pause mode. That became the dealbreaker for me because frame by frame advance through some special effects scenes, as well as certain other *cough* special *cough* scenes, is something that I really enjoy. The BD35 will perform this function, so that's the one I kept.

Yeah but all my components are running through my Harmony and I can't be bothered to look for my players remote in order to benefit from that frame by frame feature. Unless of course you're watching those *cough* scenes:D.
