It has a dedicated sub out, so I might opt for a beefier subwoofer. I could see a small setup with it punching well above it's price tag with a good sub.

I use a WiiM Ultra streamer and I am very happy with it. They keep it and the app regularly updated and it has a ton of capability.
I have to say, I am pretty satisfied with my regular WiiM amp. I can see why a lot of people would like using their whole systems. My kids will use the WiiM more than any other device that I have.

No, they should always do both passive and active speakers. For too many of us, the concept of passive speakers is not a broken one. I have had no issue with any speakers in my life, other than the foam rotting away and now I can avoid those.

They obsolete things way too prematurely now, for my confidence. I'd be pretty bent if after 10 years, I could no longer get parts for my multi-thousand dollar pair of active speakers. Look how many Bose speakers are floating around without their proprietary EQ.

All of this new technology is proving is that there is no end to it and no final answer. Meanwhile we have people listening to 11+ channels and are still imagining upgrades. It's just getting sillier now.
People don't want clutter. That is why sound bars are so popular and the general rule. Active speakers help declutter. However an analog out could easily be provided to use amps and passive speakers, it could easily be made either/or.
