I'm a newbie and it has been suggested to me to upgrade to a DTR 7.8. Any thoughts on this upgrade or with Integra components as a whole?

Integra is the premier line of Onkyo and makes quality products. What features do you feel your 8.3 is missing? The HDMI, video upscaling and new HD audio decoding are probably the main differences. Do you have a Blu-ray or HD DVD player?

It has been suggested to upgrade my Runco from the CL 510 to the RS 900. To upgrade they have suggested to go with the DTR 7.8. So you have really answered my question "It's all about the HD".

The DTR 7.8 also has three zones.
If that matters to you at all?
I have the DTR 8.3 I've never used it for video through put.
I don't like turning on my entire home theater just to watch the news.

The DTR-8.3 is a nice receiver, but the DTR-7.8 has some fine points that make it better in my opinion. The DTR-7.8 weighs about 10 pounds more, indicating a larger power supply. It features HDMI 1.3 with audio processing (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD). The DTR-7.8 does not have scalers, it only deinterlaces to 480p.:)

If it where me, I would spend a lot less and get the Onkyo TX-SR805 (the same receiver as the DTR-7.8 with a much lower street price. Integra has premium prices no matter what, Onkyo is the face all the consumers see and it has a very friendly price at around $700-800 It has a suggested retail of $1100 and it has all the same features and heft of the Integra DTR-7.8.:)
