It is the same car built on the same platform. From there up, the sum of it's parts are built to a higher standard and quality. I don't have to go to their website to see for myself. I know. All you have to do is watch Motorweek.

Do I think the Mac is worth it's price? No.

Would I buy another product to save money? Yes.

Is the Mac superior to others? Most.

Is Mac 8000 superior? No.

OK, I admit it, I hate McIntosh. But only because I hate the way they look. The front plates have a very old, dated look. Reminds me of the analog stuff from the 50's.

But that being said, that is one of the cleanest and neatest interiors I've seen.

Who cares? The same could be said for the Mac. Pointless.
Superior technology has trickled down into many mid-fi receivers, as you have mentioned.
The Mac is the bomb compared to mid-fi receivers. It's ugly.

Touché, nothing is perfect but the yamaha is not trying to be something it is not and they are not trying to make an insane profit off of it.

Right. Mass production. Volume. Think, Wal-Mart. They make the money from the volume sold. In the end, they will make a larger profit.

Your findings are right inline with what we recommend around here on a regular basis. Buy a high quality receiver, and use as a pre-pro.

But, I have my doubts about a Yamaha receiver being able to compete with Mac. I am a Yamaha fan though.

Not in 2ch because the mac has a built in pre amp but as far as movies go the yamaha is exactly the same as the mac so there will be no difference.
