So I guess since we have something we should just give it away to the less fortunate and those who dont have.

It would be something similar to the titanic and the lifeboats, everyone would come and sink your boat. Wait, this is exactly whats going on with America today. LOL....

Huh?

shame on you guys. those arguments are SO selfish. this is exactly the kind of answers I was awaiting. American society has always been like that. "keep people out cause WE are wealthy. WE don't want any other people in." hey come on. this situation is happening all around the world. here in quebec they had restaurants closed because islamists wanted to do their prayers. I don't mind for people coming from all around the world. The only downside is when those people come here and change all the rules. Otherwise, earth is EVERYONE'S home!!!

btw... this video is a hoax. Whoever didn't see the exageration in it is simply narrowminded. Bush now controls people with fear; terrorism. This is exactly the same thing. People are budging into it cuz the congressman SEEMED to have good knowledge about this. What about me doing the same thing by telling that you should divide your country in two by bringing silly and exaggerated arguments. This isn't about money... it's about humanity! I want the most people to be able to profit from the same good system and education than me. If they feel the american system is the best that fits them... let 'em come that's it! Stop crying about apocalyps

I'm sure you guys all have good arguments but please be respectful for people all around the world. I'm talking about the same respect immigrants should have for the american society. It goes two ways.

I hope I didn't offend anybody. I don't mean to start a war here... only my pov.
Huh?
Lack of critical thinking skills aside.
When the good old USA looks the other way, regarding immigration.
It 'enables' corrupt governments like Mexico to unload their people here.
Instead of Mexico providing for her our citizens. It does not.
So, they come here, and use our infrastructure, to it's breaking point.
Free hospitals, Medicaid, phony driver's licenses, and insurance cards.

Did he explain to you why America is on its to becoming a third world country?

We did this to ourselves.

During the Nixon era, the federal reserve decided to remove the gold standard. Thus the American dollar was no longer backed in gold, but backed in "faith" in the American government. And because of our economic and political domination, the rest of the world had no choice but to accept this change.

So, no longer constrained by the limited amount of gold reserve, we printed ourselves out of debt, and the world rushed to buy up our government bonds, because most of the world's currencies are pegged to the dollar. And so the cycle continues This is the main reason why credit has been so cheap and readily available in this country. The rest of the world in buying up our government bonds are propping up the American dollar and thus financing our luxury life style (relative to the lifestyle of most of the world's population).

This cycle has progressed to such a point that the rest of the world now just cannot let the dollar tank, not only would that spell doom to the world economy, but countless real wealth invested in U.S. government bonds would depreciate to nothing.

And let's not forget for the last 30 years or so, the U.S. economy, like any other post industrial economy, has been transforming itself away from a manufacturing based economy. But transforming itself into what? That is the question. A country's real wealth relative to the rest of the world is only measured in the amount of products it can sell to the rest of the world. These days we practically don't manufacture anything. What do we have to offer to the rest of the world? Services? Information technology? Sales clerks? The economic output generated from this service industry oriented economic model simply pales in comparison to the economic wealth generated by a manufacturing economy.

And so we buy manufactured products from third world countries, nowadays primarily from China, on credit. And before anyone points any fingers at China for robbing America of its manufacturing jobs, let me point out that China for the past 20 years or so has been the main financier of our American way of life. What do you think China does with that gargantuan trade surplus it generates? That trade surplus is almost entirely invested in U.S. government bonds, to prop up the dollar, so the dollar retains its value, so we can print more money to buy up Chinese manufactured goods, and in turn the Chinese use that surplus to buy more U.S. government bonds, and so the cycle continues.

Long term wise, do you think this economic model is sustainable? Ever noticed lately how the Euro has been steadily rising against the dollar? The fall of the dollar cannot be sudden, or else the world economy will collapse overnight. But the fall is sure to come, it's only a matter of time. When the world moves away from a dollar based economy... Right now it is only our military, political, and economic muscle that is preventing the rest of the world from making this transition all too suddenly.

And oh, immigration, whether legal or illegal, has negligible impact on this downward spiral.

... "Whatever you do, keep it out of the US, this nation is on it's way to becoming a third world country". I just looked at him for a minute, and he said, "greed and the political correct mindset has completely corrupt this nation and soon we may have to pay the price".

I think that America was built on slavery, that is what built the railroads, the major corporations and made the US the great powerhouse it is/was. It was bacically free labor, that is now gone and it takes years for the effect to be felt in the economy and or marketplace, but here it is.

The US can't export any goods, its all junk. Look at how the mindset is today, everybody wants immediate gratification. The US used to make good cars, now a majority of the cars are ****.

The same goes for all goods, why does my dad's old Marantz receiver still work 30 years later, yet my cousins Yamaha V995 which is less than 10 years old, not work anymore. I just bought a new sofa, from a reputable well known company, and after 3 months, it has started to fall apart. I still have my grandma's solid wood chair which is over 100 years old, and functions perfectly.

I suppose you can chalk it up to...They don't make things like they used to.

Like I've heard, "All good things must come to an end".

Those arguments sound eerily similar to the prevailing sentiments expressed during the Civil Rights era.
I was waiting for this.

The difference is, the tragedy of the CR era was that the minority involved were already citizens, not foreign nationals scurrying in to plunder resources. This issue is unprecedented in US history, and has nothing to compare it to.

Also, let's drop the word "immigrants" from this discussion. Immigrants are our forefathers who went through the process correctly, and are legal immigrants--not resource whores.

That's because the width and breadth of your knowledge base *no offense* is based on what some lib professor of "civics" tells you without perspective. The South's economy was rurally-based, with slavery as the machine. However (and this is critical) we must remember that at the time, slavery was a traded commodity. In fact, let us never forget that without African brokers of humanity enabling the process, it would have never happened.

The US can't export any goods, its all junk. Look at how the mindset is today, everybody wants immediate gratification. The US used to make good cars, now a majority of the cars are ****.
This unfortunately is the case in many regards. The US right now is content with providing services more than goods, which is actually brilliant since high-quality services and intellectual property never become commodities.

Like I've heard, "All good things must come to an end".
I think you have all the pieces, but haven't put them together yet. Like the South, the economy had to alter itself slightly to accommodate changes in the world. The US is less focused on hard goods, and more content with providing the means to build them. Personally, I take more pride in a situation where the end result of your contribution was through brainpower as opposed to back muscles.

You know, whatever your views on immigration, or illegal immigration, I think we should all agree that the video is utter bullocks.

Stupid, misleading graph.

Refuses to consider the value that workers put into the economy and businesses they work for.

Attacks an utter strawman position that no one in their right mind holds (that immigration will solve global poverty)

Only in America

For those of you who missed your morning cup o' joe...I thought the attached commentary from one of our congressional "leaders" would get you going. One might want to pay particular attention to the last paragraph.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nancy Pelosi condemned the new record highs of the stock market as "just
another example of Bush policies helping the rich get richer". "First
Bush cut taxes for the rich and the economy has rebounded with new record
low unemployment rates, which only means wealthy employers are getting even
wealthier at the expense of the underpaid working class".

She went on to say "Despite the billions of dollars being spent in Iraq our
economy is still strong and government tax revenues are at all time highs.
What this really means is that business is exploiting the war effort and
working Americans, just to put money in their own pockets".

When questioned about recent stock market highs she responded "Only the
rich benefit from these record highs. Working Americans, welfare
recipients, the unemployed and minorities are not sharing in these obscene
record highs". "There is no question these windfall profits and income
created by the Bush administration need to be taxed at 100% rate and those
dollars redistributed to the poor and working class". "Profits from the
stock market do not reward the hard work of our working class who, by their
hard work, are responsible for generating these corporate profits that
create stock market profits for the rich. We in congress will need to
address this issue to either tax these profits or to control the stock
market to prevent this unearned income to flow to the rich."

When asked about the fact that over 80% of all Americans have investments
in mutual funds, retirement funds, 401K's, and the stock market she replied
"That may be true, but probably only 5% account for 90% of all these
investment dollars. That's just more "trickle down" economics claiming that
if a corporation is successful that everyone from the CEO to the floor
sweeper benefit from higher wages and job security which is ridiculous".
"How much of this 'trickle down' ever get to the unemployed and minorities
in our county? None, and that's the tragedy of these stock market highs."

"We democrats are going to address this issue after the election when we
take control of the congress. We will return to the 60% to 80% tax rates on
the rich and we will be able to take at least 30% of all current lower
Federal Income Tax tax payers off the roles and increase government income
substantially. We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income in our
country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest."

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied "We
need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and
minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal
immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of
unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long
ways to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to
have as "Americans"."

I doubt those statements were ever made by Pelosi. Did you Snope this?
I guess these passed-along emails are a little like the rumor mill...not always subject to actual quotes. Her take is interesting, nonetheless.

Yes, she's a bit more polished and would never reveal/espouse that level of anti-capitalism - whether she believed in it or not - it would alienate too much of the country. She's not that dumb.

I don't know if everyone realizes this, but in macro economic terms, the stock market generates no real wealth.

If someone makes a certain amount of money on the stock market, then someone else loses a certain amount of money on the stock market. It's a zero sum game.

This is not entirely true. The stock market does not work this way. Companies which people invest in create products and services which better peoples lives, pay employee's, etc. As companies grow and compete with eachother, better products are created, and employee's are better compensated, etc. Besides, companies stock prices are not directly tied to eachother, for example, if company A's stock price increases, company B will not necessarily decrease. That would be a zero sum game.

Immigration, and The Bird Feeder

Immigration, and The Bird Feeder

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked
and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quite, serene and no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.

Now lets see...our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

I agree but it will not happen,no politician has enough ba!!s to stand up & say somethings wrong, instead politicians & alot of citizens too like to finger point at other areas of the economy as being the problem.

In a dream world people should be able to say the he!! with this & put a stop to ALL the senseless spending in our country like illegeal's or....

Free welfare for everybody.
Disability for being diagnosed with A D D, ie stupid.
Free drug rehab for government employee's.
Paid sick days for government employee's.
Government paid cell phones.
Government owned personal use vehicile's.
State paid telephone's for those on welfare.
State bought furniture for those on welfare.
State bought & maintained cars for those on welfare.
Affirmitive action programs.
Government paid travel for conventions & seminars.
Quit paying for frivelous lawsuits.
Stop paying Millions of dollars to study everything before acting on it.

and on & on & on,nobody dare put a stop to any of these things because if sombody else dont agree than your not being PC,so instead of doing anything concrete to stop the bleeding Americans & our elected leaders involve in double talk that dont mean anything real, but it dont offend anybody either.

Being an American isnt about doing whats right it's about giving EVERYBODY what they want, no matter the cost ,& not offending anybody along the way.

Wasn't this big government spending a hot election topic back in 2000 between the Democrats and the Republicans?

The conservatives finally won control of both Houses and the White House. Guess what, eight years later, the big government has only gotten fatter.

Democrats and Republicans will never stop the spending now, they're so entrenched in the lobbying and pork bills that keep running their campaigns. Remember, their goal is to get re-elected, not to serve us. I don't know what will stop it, unless we stop voting for people simply because they have a (D) or an (R) next to their name. I think America is basically begging for some free thinking independents in politics. Unfortunately they never get the money or exposure they'd need to be elected.
