It should be pretty damn easy... get a job and you're allowed to be a citizen. Let's trade our current citizens for them.

Or throw a baseball really hard and you're a citizen.

Why didn't you answer my questions?

So it's your assertion that anyone regardless of circumstance can get a work authorization with little cost?
She was my wife. Now, why didn't you answer MY question? Is it your assertion that it's ok to not even try?

So it's your assertion that Salas, the person complaining about the costume, shouldn't be able to do so? I mean if that's not your assertion, that I don't really understand your point. She has the right to be offended and ***** about it, just like you have the right to not be offended and ***** about it.
Not at all. If someone decides to take offense, that’s their prerogative – but, it’s also their choice. And just because one person, or even a group of people find something offensive, does that mean it’s wrong for everyone? I don’t like the lyrics in a lot of rap music, nor do I care for the music itself. Does that mean people should stop making the music they want? Of course not, it just means that I choose not to listen.

If the costume had been a white sheet & hood ala the KKK with the words “I hate n_____s” printed on it that would clearly indicate the designer meant to be offensive. Did the maker of this costume mean to offend? We can speculate, but no one here knows for sure. Just because some people find something not to their liking does not automatically make it wrong for everyone, and in the case of the alien costume, it’s up to each individual to be offended or not. And let’s face it – some people choose to be offended & make a big deal out of something as an outlet for the frustrations & anger, or just for an excuse to shoot their mouth off.

What if a law is unjust?
Then by all means, arrange to make your case in front of the senate & house to try and get the law changed. Start a letter writing campaign, or a petition. Take the measures needed but always bear in mind not everyone is going to agree with your stance. Our “system” is far from perfect, but we’re not at the mercy of a tyrannical dictator.

lol... yeah, that's way more reasonable than crossing an arbitrary border and getting a job. if you would really concern yourself with whether or not something is legal or not when it comes to feeding your kids... well, I dunno, I want to call BS on that, honestly. also, an illegal immigrant can't really do that, their only choice is for them to just cross. as long as there are people who want to hire them, they'll be coming. don't blame the illegals, blame the citizen taxpayers who are hiring them.

I do, but it doesn't make what the illegals are doing anymore legal.

...which never mattered anyway.
So you would argue that lawless people need protection and have rights? Even though from day one they can't abide the most blatant and obvious laws that we set down from the very people they are seeking refuge?. And you would invite them into your society with open arms?

Sure it does – both are illegal in this country. My point is, where do we draw the line?
CNN Reports: Jaywalking similar to murder!

For one, a line could be drawn at "if this directly harms another person, it is justifiably illegal". The harm the illegal immigrant causes to the citizens of a country is indirect a best. Your analogy is weak, if existent at all.

to somebody who has the alternative of watching his kids starve. do you think an arbitrary man's law is really going to matter? would it really matter to you? is this really what you would think when you tuck your kid in at night and he was hungry as hell?? daddy cares more about arbitrary laws than your welfare... good night son.

I’m 47 years old, and I have worked since I was 15. I’ve been married nearly 23 years and have two kids. My wife & I have gone through schooling and work for a living. My kids are fed, clothed and have some niceties because we earn the money for these things, and pay taxes. We have debt like most everyone, but we take care of it ourselves, as we should. We abide by the laws set forth by our law makers and I abhor people who sponge off the system, or feel it’s the responsibility of the citizens of the United States to feed & care for them. You want to “call BS on that” then go right ahead – I call BS on the whole premise of your argument.

I'm not going to call BS, but I'm going to say that this argument is irrelevant. I don't believe that illegal immigrants should be allowed to sponge off of the system, but I also don't believe that illegal immigrants should be illegal. Citizenship should require a certain amount of work, but residency or working permits should be as simple as coming to the border, passing a background check, and being let through. The idea that this is "our" country is absurd. It belongs to nobody; it's our duty to protect it, but not to determine to gets to come in and try to fend for themselves.

Oh really? So the hosptials that have had to close down near the border because of illegals not paying for their ER visits doesn't have a direct effect on that community?

I would blame that on the structure of the health care system. Canada doesn't seem to have much of a problem with that.

By that same premise then are you suggesting there should be no laws at all – people can just do whatever they want, right? In a similar thread some time ago one of the members here remarked on the fact that his wife worked in the ER at a hospital on a border town. She watched as people who had lived in the US all their lives were turned away from the emergency room because it was full of illegal immigrants flooding the ER not with real emergencies, but wanting free healthcare. So much for my “weak analogy”
It’s convenient going through life with blinders on to protect your point of view, isn't it?
