Pick DVD! Yes, that's right, pick DVD till one format wins, and then pick up movies from the winning format from the bargain bin >3

If I had to purchase either one tomorrow, it would be an HD-DVD player. You may laugh at my reasoning but this similar "format war" took place between VHS and Beta technologies as mentioned in a previous post in this discussion. There were many factors that played in VHS becoming the dominate technology but one factor mentioned rarely is the Adult Video Industry. This is a multi-billion dollar industry and it is not going away anytime soon. During the VHS/Beta wars, this industry adopted VHS format and turned the tide in VHS favor. Granted, it appears Sony is not going the Blu-Ray format alone but the fact the adult industry has adopted the HD-DVD format will be one of the unspoken factors that will come into play as to what format becomes the dominate player. For the price these players are going for, the last thing I want to do is pay $500 + for a player that could become obsolete in the near future.
HMMM.. Lets see, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, Philips, LG, Apple, and Sony vs. Toshiba, RCA, Onkyo, and Microsoft. Plus if you ever take a moment to look at the HD/Blu-ray movie section at Besy buy or any other electronics store you will find a much larger studio support for Blu-ray.

I would like to point out I have both HD/Blu-ray in my HT, but if I were to have to make a choice on which format will win? It would be Blu-ray.

(BTW Blu-ray has porn too.)

Here's another point: During the VHS/Beta war, where were the video games? You see. The PS3 is a BR player, in other words porno is not the only player in town now, this stuff will be adapted to different platforms in the future, content (porno) will be only one of the factors amongst many.

I just don't see any way for Blu-Ray to lose this, they have too much on their side, it's almost as lopsided as VHS vs Beta was. When Sony, Phillips, and Panasonic are on the same side alone makes it nearly unbeatable. Why they seem to be slow on cutting prices to equal HD, I don't know, but the PS3 more than evens it out.

I really never understood the HD side of the "argument" in this "war", a higher tech "jump" in technology and in storage size is a no brainer. Once the prices of players crack, they will become reasonably priced pretty quickly. This war is as stupid as DIVX was for Circuit City.
