Not sure why so many people and reviews have complained about the ending of the movie, I thought it was good.
People are pissed about the ending because the book was totally different. In the book towards the end he is considered the bad guy.

Well, they sort of implied that a few times, but didn't dig deeper into that. I never read the book. So in the book does it suggest he is trying to redeem himself for what happened? I think that was the message they were hinting at but not making entirely clear in the movie.

the best actor I know is Gary Oldman
This is an old post, but I just came across this.

Every time I find out a character was played by Gary Oldman I have the exact same reaction: "What?! Really?!"

When I realized that he played the dude in The Fifth Element, when I figured out he was Sirius Black (this was in the middle of Order of the Phoenix, mind you!), when I found out he was the guy playing Richard Crosby on Friends, when I found out (after the movie) that he was the bad guy in Air Force 1, etc etc etc.

I'm a bit slow, but not *that* slow. I have never once noticed that it's *Gary Oldman* playing a character until *after the film or show is over*. Hell, I just looked him up on IMDB and realized he was Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK! I saw that two months ago and didn't know! No one, anywhere, disappears into a role like Gary Oldman. He's amazing.

... And he played Gordon in Batman Begins?!

LOL. I always know it is Gary, but he definitely does a good job at "becoming" that person. Check out Immortal Beloved, he does a very good Beethoven.

I think my favorit role of Gary's was The Professional, I think it's called. The one with Jean Reno as an assassin. I just love that line of his when he's talking about Mozart. "I LOOOOOVE Mozart." :D

Not everyone, I thought he stunk up the place with his one dimensional acting ability. He has ZERO screen persona. I think Gilbert Gottfried would have even done a better job.

Oldman: "Bring me everyone."

some guy: "Everyone?"

Oldman: "EVERYONE!!!!"

(notice how awesome that Gary Oldman is, he was entered into discussion in a thread about a movie he isn't even in:D)

Well where to start. In the book he is not a doctor, just a normal guy that happens to be immune to the virus. Now in the book he didn't stay away from the vampires, he actually hunted them during the day and they feared him. Now the guy they portray as the leader in the movie is actually his neighbor in the book and at night would always try to lure Neville out. In the book the vampires were very weak and could not take him on. Now after a while the vampire people actually learned to control the virus and started living in a society but could not do it in peace until Neville was gone. In the book no cure was ever found and the infected just formed a new society after they killed Neville. That is not all that happens but I recommend you guys read the book as it is extremely good.

Sounds better than the movie already, but the public probably wouldn't have liked that story line much.

Well there you go.
I saw it the other night and liked it, but same as everyone was disappointed with the ending. I also didn't like the way it would just start to touch on a juicy issue to then ignore it and continue with the main story.

I actually said to the pep's I was with "It is like they have done a movie based on a book"

I hate been right!

That would definitely be worth buying... assuming the audio and video quality are good, and I would expect it to be.

I never read the book or was really aware of it before. I've seen the two previous versions of the story, Last man on earth & Omega man, and liked both. The thing that bothers me most about the ending wasn't the religous overtones, it was he was so prepared everywhere else, yet he couldn't make a safe area or easy escape route. ***SPOILER ALERT*** the hand grenade was powerful enough to kill everyone and him yet he couldn't through it the the busted plexiglass, PLEXIGLASS!! c'mon, kill everyone and escape with the girl. It was all those little issues and more that were turned into a big question mark. Also, how come the infected seemed so stupid, yet they could set the same trap after watching him do it once -I'd have problems making that trap, and I've seen similar ones in lots of movies.

All that said, I'll buy it when it comes out and watch it several times. Overall I still enjoyed the movie and recommend it to people.

Agreed, there were a lot of issues in the movie, but for some reason I still enjoyed it. I expect to pick it up on BD when it comes out.

I'm one of them. I'm sick of how Hollywood tries to put a happy and heroic ending on everything. Come on, let the bad guys win and let things end tragically. Overall, the movie wasn't great, but wasn't terrible either. Was a fun watch at IMAX.

Like I said before, if they make it just like the book, the general public either won't get it or won't like it (they like their art spoon fed to them right?). The studios are in the business of making money not art, thus the typical watered down screenplays that can appeal to a wide audience.
