Crimea base standoff sheds light on wider conflict: Nahlah Ayed - World - CBC News

I hope this Colonel is OK. He appears to be one of the very few people to act honourably in this situation.
It seens that the problem is that the Ukraine armed forces in Krimea are left to themselves, the socalled minister of defence seem to give them no attention or no support, just a few days ago he blamed a high officer in Krimea, claiming it's his own fault that he's in such an impossible situation, as he's just stupid to have so uncorageous men..... refusing to provide any guidance or assistance.

Seems like it's more important to talk to Obama and Eu leaders, doing their blah blah.....

I wonder if there's any high level military guidance or leadership of the armed forces; so with this in mind, is there any way the Ukraine forces in Krimea can do any operation with some sort of strategic goals?

I think the Ukraine government is stuck in a difficult position. I believe they want to leave some military forces in Crimea as their last toe-hold on the territory, but they have no means to support them. Being politicians, they don't want to be criticized for telling the troops to surrender their bases and come home. Nor, do they want to be held accountable for telling the troops to stand fast in their postions and possibly see something bad happen to them. Therefore, they just won't provide any direction at all, so that they won't be held accountable for any bad decisions. Therefore, those unfortunate troops are left on their own.

I doubt that there's much the Ukraine military can do in this situation. The Russians are simply way to powerful to oppose in any meaningful way. I'm sorry to say that NATO won't go to war over Crimea. There's no way that it could be confined to that region. If Russia were to invade the rest of Ukraine, well, all bets are off.

Very very difficult to say what's going on, and I'm sure neither US nor EU will deploy military forces in Ukriane, no matter what happens....
The German minister of foreign affairs said that EU is not going to accept another war in Europe.... I just can't relate to that as EU is not going to do more than some sanctions. Germany is the biggest importer of Russian gas and I don't see that they're going to do anything much really, it's just too inconvenient for them, we're probably not better here in Norway, anyways too.....

What the Ukrainians really need is some real patriots in Government that can make the best out of the possibilities in the country, and make the country work in unison; sounds simple but it's very very hard

EDIT: I just heard that the minister of defence got fired, this is very good news, hope for an upturn now :p

In other news, Putin looks to enlist the aid of action hero actor, Steven Seagal, to implement a comprehensive exercise program for Russians like they did in the good old days. Trip Advisor is downgrading vacations to Crimea and Sochi.

Which vacations, Crimea will have no visitors, 65% of the tourists in Crimea were Ukranian, that's a dead-end market now.... don't even think russians will go there anymore for vacation....
