I’m in the hospital

What is your assessment schedule on this treatment? I'm happy to hear you have a mutation that should be responsive to treatment.

How long did it take the lab to geno-type your cancer?

It’s about 5 AM and I am wide awake. I’ve been told to be ready for transport to an acute rehab hospital. I guess I’m kind of keyed up. This is a big step for me in the right direction. I’ve been in the hospital since November 3.

Like all things in the hospital you can’t be 100% sure it’ll happen so I’ll be ready and waiting eagerly.

I still want to continue this thread because I can’t get out of my head how lucky I am.

I intend to talk about that in future posts but maybe not today .

Thanks all the best wishes, prayers, sympathy, jokes, etc. They do help.

What Alex says is true. Super Catnip has the poorly reported side effect of known as “Viagra Bear”. Especially on female nurses. I’m besieged by nurses who want to check my catheter or give yet another sponge bath. Maybe I’ll get some rest at the rehab place .

I can't imagine a month long stay in a hospital. I must be like a world class wuss. My nursing staff must have been as elated as you seem to be at the prospect of me leaving but I never, not once, felt lucky ... even though I am.

It's funny that you know that your euphoric sense of relief won't last. That's just the opposite of how I view any emotional state I experience. The right mix of drugs can help you see things my way.

I'm already looking out the door for the axe. I gotta get situated better for splitting but even with the little bit that I have done, I see the draw. It occurred to me that splitting wood is a bit like smoking crack: just one more hit. :D

I'm glad to hear your strength is returning. Hopefully the change of venue today goes through and hopefully it doesn't wear you out too bad. Like I said, you seem to be a lot tougher than me. I swear, my hospital staff couldn't wait for me to leave and the feeling was mutual.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selpercatinib?wprov=sfti1#History I finally figured out how to link to a Wikipedia page using my phone . This first link is about Super Catnip.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RET_proto-oncogene?wprov=sfti1#
The next link is about the mutation, RET, found in my tumor cells. It allowed Super Catnip to be great choice for me.

This is a huge stroke of luck. Only 1-2% of NSCLC patients have tumors with the RET fusion mutation. And I am one of those.
The side effects don't look...fun. But, considering the alternative, it looks like a no-brainer.

I'm at a loss for words Swerd ... a first for me.

But knowing you like I do, that cancer doesn't stand a chance in hell.

Don't go gentle into the night my friend. Keep up the good fight.

Resist!

take it from a stage 4 cancer patient. My cancer ( on my tongue) the docs at Mayo felt since I never smoked was due to genetic susceptibility or mutations they linked to the probable cause. So far I'm free and clear. Only advice I can give, keep a total 100% positive attitude, push away from those that are negative and trust the science. It saved my life or I would not be here, as they gave me a 50/50 back on March 6th , 2020 before I went into a long drawn out 7 1/2 surgery and recovery, then 1 week later started 30 treatments of 60 gy's of proton radiation. And keep the faith. Every little bit helps.

I hate seeing this thread. Keep up the fight, to whatever extent you can.

WRT the nurses checking you- are you sure it's not because:

The way the FDA wants the side effects to be reported is to have them all mixed up in a bucket, without the frequencies in which they occur. With the frequencies, the picture looks better.

Best wishes @Swerd.

As a hospital pharmacist, I see patients at the hospital everyday on chemo's like Selpercatinib.

But it hits me differently when it's about someone I know on the forum.

So I am at loss for words. But just wanted to say "Best wishes and God Bless!"

After 25 days, I’m out of Georgetown Hospital! Today I rode an ambulance to Adventist Healthcare Rehabilitation, only 4 miles from our house. Room 220-1.

Checked in and evaluated today. Tomorrow I begin two 1.5 hour PT/OT sessions per day M-F. If all goes well, I could be home in 10-14 days.

I’ve been off of any oxygen since leaving Georgetown at noon. So far so good. I feel great without any wires, cables or tubes!!

I traveled with my bottle of Super Catnip capsules .

That is good news. Let's pray that the Universe helps you return home within the next 2 weeks. Keep being optimistic. :)

I'm getting a bit of a chuckle reading about all the prayers sent. The real trick here would be to get him to pray for himself or any one of us but he seems to have the key component to any religion: gratitude.

Never seen somebody quite this happy about a new drug (super cat nip).

The husband of a friend of ours had stage 4 spinal cancer as well as various other locations. They used some new drug with him as well and he is currently in full remission with no reoccurrence since before Covid. When they said stage 4, I was shocked that he not only was doing OK, but actually has no signs of it now. So I all I am saying is, like you said, it isn't a death sentence anymore. Take care and good luck man.

I’m tired after my 1st day of PT, but I do have more to say. Here’s an outline of my topics:

• Super Catnip and its target a specific mutation of tumor cell’s epidermal growth factor receptor, called the RET fusion oncogene. All this is the product of 40 years of research. (Enormous luck)

• My rheumatologist who ordered me to hospital, saving my life. (More luck) In my view she is a rock star MD.

• Which hospital I went to was part of this good luck.

• My new oncologist who was an oncology fellow at the same NCI group where I worked for the last 20 years of my career. He was there 3 years after I retired, but we knew many people in common. (Even more luck)

• Probably more, but I’m tired and can’t think of them now.
