How to control Denon AVR-4500H & Blue Ray player without going to Network Room?

Sorry, total beginner here. Purchased a house with projector and screen. The Denon AVR-4500H came with the house and sits in a network room 2 rooms removed from the screen. I added my Sony blue ray player to the AV rack but have to go the the network room to control the blue ray player with the blue ray player remote since I haven't figured out how to control the blue ray player yet with the Denon RC-1240 remote I just purchased. I am trying to locate the manual for both the receiver and the remote but haven't had much luck. Any help would be most appreciated.

You need line of sight with the Denon remote controller. Sony never released an official remote controller app for their blu-ray players when they are connected to a network.

If the projector supports HDMI-CEC, you could turn it ON in the projector, Denon and Sony player. Then, with the Denon connected to your network, you could control the receiver and player using the Denon AVR Remote app from a Smart device in combination with HDMI-CEC. Results will vary of course.

Actually Sony did launch an app for bd players. I used to have it. But they discontinued support a few years ago. Dumm…

I missed the boat on that app when I purchased a Sony player a few years ago. Silly Sony. You'd think they’d set the standard for this stuff as they make TVs, receivers, players and game consoles. But, they always seem to be running behind everybody else in some ways.

Here is the web manual for the X4500H. There is a PDF download link on that page as well. It says that it's the European version but the operation should be the same for American models.

A search for the 1240 remote links to the X4700H but the operation should be same for the 4500H.

If HDMI-CEC control does not work then you may need an IR repeater assuming the Sony remote uses IR. The receiver goes in your home theatre room and the transmitter points at the Sony's IR receiver.

Most remote apps aren’t very good. But that one was pretty good. Seems odd they killed it. I would think they’d have an to control all Sony connected devices for a streamlined system. Maybe there are too many systems that are multi brand. Therefore making something like that moot.

Eh, it is what it is. Oppo never did give app support to my BDP-83.

The Denon has 3.5mm remote in and out. Some Sony players had 3.5mm remote in. Hmm…

Thanks for the in depth reply. Beginner reply to follow: So, if I am understanding your reply about the Denon remote control, It is not going to help me since it requires line of sight with the receiver and the receiver is in a rack closet in another room. I'll try your recommendation regarding if the Epson projector has HDMI-CEC along with the Sony Blue Ray player. Interestingly, my NVIDIA SHIELD Pro streaming device which I connected to the Denon receiver and my Xfinity modem rounter allows me to control my SHIELD perfectly well from the home theater room via the SHIELD remote despite the SHIELD being in the same av rack as the Denon and blue ray player. Is that probably because of the HDMI-CEC?

I believe the Nvidia remote controller uses Bluetooth. The model of Epson projector and Sony player would be useful here in figuring out a way to go.

I believe the projector does support HDMI-CEC and calls it "HDMI Link."

Yes, the Shield remote is pretty cool actually. It has both bluetooth and IR, so it uses bluetooth to control the Shield and IR to control the receiver if you have line of sight.

Sony manual is here. The remote sensor is in the front, so likely IR, and there is no remote jack in the back. HDMI-CEC is hit and miss. I have a Shield and cable box on a new Denon X4800H connected to a Samsung S95B. The TV and cable box sometimes get confused when switching between sources and I'm about to disable CEC entirely, it can be such a pain. If the components are in another room, I am surprised that the previous owner did not already have an IR repeater to control the receiver.

The Apple TV 4K has similar capabilities regarding their remote controller. Only the 1000ES Sony player had the 3.5mm Remote In concerning their later players. With HDMI-CEC available in the setup here, I'd give it a shot. It may actually work or be glitchy.

Nobody needs line of sight for anything! They need a control system that uses RF communication between the universal remote and hub, or the smart device and hub. Some of the available hubs can control equipment via IP, if the equipment allows it, or it can use IR/IR ports to control everything that doesn't (stupidly) require badly thought-out BlueTooth for control.

Yes, that is an option. The system here may need no additional equipment when the Denon is connected to the network and HDMI-CEC is enabled in each device. The Denon AVR Remote app will control the Denon receiver and it will, or may, control a connected blu-ray player using HDMI-CEC. This works with other makes and models of receivers and players. I can do as much anywhere in my house using my Onkyo controller app to control my Sony UBP-X800M2.

I can confirm the Denon app does not work with this Sony blue-ray player. The app will switch between inputs like Cable/Sat and Blue-Ray but will not actually control the device.
