Thank you guys. What about this heat issue I am reading about the RX-V2500? Some say it gets hot even if used as a pre/pro with external amp? True? My HK AVR 330 gets only a little warm after 4 hours of movie watching. Need more opinion. keep it coming, please.

.....Gentlemen, you heard him....my Mac pre-amp runs cool as a cucumber....is this an amp issue?....are there any surround receivers that run even warm when the amp sections are are not being used and receiving no current?.....

.....aaahh yes, I see that hand, haha.....TDeluce, can you say, that, which you are now hearing, has seemingly come to life?....do you feel more of an involvement emotionally?....more body movement, chill-bumps, and such?....does it seem, you have moved MUCH closer, to the recorded group's live speakers?....
yep :) Before I would hear door squeak shut, now I
can hear every nuance of each door hinge as a door
closes. Before I heard footsteps, now I hear the
the scratching of the sole of a shoe on the floor.

BIG difference that would not go unnoticed :)

.....so, should a surround receiver that gets hot quickly, say it's amp sections can't handle it?....we know the ohmage of the speakers come into play, but, are some surround receivers cooler with the same speakers?....interesting dicotamy....we seem to be after the best pre-pro'ing we can get, and want the amp sections to be stout, also....does such an animal exist and remain competitive?.....

.....I say search on, or cut the chase, and feed less mouths at the receiver-trough, going after the best pre-pro'ing to be had....if they discontinue this Yamaha 4600 series and they get cheap, this could be another move by me.....

.....not sure about making a move on the GR Research 2's....Bob has a pair of beat-up enclosures like my rears that we refer to as the black scruffies....the cabinets were not used, nothing wrong with them, were stored, in a garage, and moved twice....scratched, scraped, and who knows, maybe moldy, I don't know....but, they will sound magnificent with their resolved mids for centers, and why take a chance of any coloring with the GR Research?......I will paint them glossy-black with a brush, for real....latex brushed thick, dries smooth, paint flat, and allow to dry before rotating....I can get these rough-cabinet SpeakerArt SuperClefs built, cheap, and they will be matched to my system.....

.....5 of the GR Research 2's with subs would be magnificent, there's no doubt in my mind......

From mulester7 posts above, I reckon RX-V2500 heat issue is well known here too?

Heat is a byproduct of amplification. Unless you have gigantic heat sinks and/or alot of noisy fans, it will be warm to the touch. It amazes me that so many people are in search of the 'best' amp or receiver with a boatload of power but then expect it to run ice cold.

Yamaha is known for not delivering the advertised watts. I don't know what you call boatload of power but 66 watts per channel with 5 channel driven that the 2500 put out is not. 130w x 7 ? I think not! My entry level receiver HK 330 delivers 55 watts with all channels driven. A more close competitor to the RX-V2500, the Denon 3805 puts out 116 watts with 5 channel driven. That is twice the watts to that of the Yamaha. BTW, form what I have read the Yamaha doesn't just get warm to touch, it gets hot. Heat damages electronics in the long run.

.....yes, the transforming of the current from Alternating Current as we know it, to Alternating Current in an inductance form.....most radical....produces heat....about to be in this over my head, and could already be....where's WmAx when you need him?.......

First, see the thread 'The All Channels Driven Fallacy'. Second, don't buy an external amp if you are so concerned about heat - as you say heat damages electronics in the long run and amps get hot. Then again, so do receivers. So in the long run, all electronics will fail. Now there's an earth-shaking revelation.

.....MDS, the word fallacy is inappropriate....there are factors and conditions that enter in, to make end-results maybe not quite as bad as people think, but fallacy is inappropriate, imo....where there's smoke, there's usually somewhat of a fire.....
