Definitely finding that the ads on all sides of the articles are a bit much. At least if they were gone from the left it would improve visibility and appeal a lot.

Looks like I may have to edit my hosts file again though.

I'd like to see the menu bar moved above the top banner ad and linked in with the Audioholics logo somewhat. Its somewhat disjointed right now with the menu a very thin strip sitting below a giant ad.

And while we are on the topic of the giant ad across the top, maybe try centering the ad on the screen and making the separation between menu and ad more apparent.

Since I was rudely ignored on another thread by Mr. Andry, I'll post my thoughts here:

Too many ads. Far too many. They completely dominate the page, to the point where the content is hard to find. Add to that the fact that most of them are animated and it's just too much garbage going on. Smaller, non-animated, and text based ads would be much better.

So you decide to torture the readers that don't fork over money? That's a good idea.

The site, is well....a bit TOO busy. A few tooooo many ads and the content is sandwiched btw a bunch of stuff.

Good thing this is only the beta/gamma version :D

The main body text font renders very poorly on both our Windows XP SP2/Firefox 2.0 and IE 7.0 system and on our Mac OSX 10.4/Firefox 2.0 system. Looks OK on XP/Opera 9.10.

Way too many ads - it looks great without the ads (AdBlock Plus work well). As for charging a membership fee to avoid the ads...

Not bad. Seemed about the same speed as the current site. A couple of quick things that I noticed, and didn't care for:

The default font changed to something much harder to read. ??

The blue bars used as ratings make it hard to read what the ratings are if both the performance rating and value rating bars aren't left justified equally. For example: At a quick look, the Hsu STF-1 looked like it got a better performance rating than value rating.

So long as the content remains top notch as it's always been, the layout isn't a big deal though. Keep up the great work!

Gamma site

Its fine from this side of the pond. Taking into account the number of hops the content has to undergo to get here 2-3 seconds per page is perfectly acceptable.
One small improvement to look at is technical. The drop down menus from the headings only work on my browser (Opera) if you hover the mouse under the heading not on it. That needs attention.

I don't like the new site too much. Not only is it slower but it seems to have more ads... and they are more "in your face". The one thing I am wondering is why the gamma site has system recommendations that are not on the orginial site.

It would be nice if there was a way to customize the front page so I could find stuff easier... as it is the page is too long with too much stuff in my face.

I agree with some of the others. I opened the site today (SAT morning) and saw the new layout. I have no problem with that but the text looks terrible on XP. It looks fine in the forum.

My only other quibble Gene is the pop up boxes on certain key words. It is really distracting. Reading text on a display is difficult enough and many of us use a cursor to follow. NOT a good combination.
