I want decently loud, very good quality sound for music in my room. I considered a subwoofer but quickly realized I have no idea what I'm looking for. Not too interested in room acoustics because i will be bringing the setup from home to college/parties/etc. If anyone knows of a loud audio setup that doesn't sacrifice quality for $200 to $300 i would appreciate it.

It would sound mono.

Here. Grab a pair of these EOS 150SP and a Dayon Sub-1200. That'll leave you a little extra for a pair of stands, and it should sound great for the money.

Or a pair of used Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelfs would also be worth considering. They still sound nice, and they've got a bit higher sensitivity than the EOS bookshelfs.

What are you going to use to drive them? Do you have a receiver in mind?

The EOS has modest quoted sensitivity - they do/will play louder than
the Pioneer at the same volume level.

Also, the EOS is a clear step above the Pioneer in sound quality - Solid
Signal does not stock them in their warehouse - they do pull from some
where else - I would call them first.

The trouble is being able to find any that are left.

few not bad consumer grade speakers mentioned above, but if you expect to bring speakers to college party - the loudness required at continuous playback will more than likely ruin all of them

PA speakers like even cheapest Behringers I mention above are designed to just for that to handle loud playback over extended time periods. Also keep in mind they are active - do not required external amplifier.

Are they top-end speakers or will work for concerts - definitely NO, but on your budget these should do.
If you decide to buy any consumer equipment to save few bucks, you'd very likely find yourself soon spending money AGAIN to replace damaged speakers

Here. Grab a pair of x and a x. That'll leave you a little extra for a pair of stands, and it should sound great for the money.

I literally have no idea what I'm doing or buying

The more I think about it, the more I agree with BSA's recommendation of pro audio speakers. They're a bit more rugged, more suitable to tote into parties and play loud for hours. If you had a goal in mind of a home theater with eventually LCR + surrounds + sub, then my EOS / Pioneer recommendation would be more suitable I think. But nothing says college party like a pair of pro audio cabinets.

Then I suggest you decide what you want. A party system or a home system. In either case, for that price, don't expect too much.

If you are looking at the "party system", then I suggest a trip to the local Guitar Center. A really great store, and they often have used gear too.

Not sure if this guy is still listening.... but, I dont think you can have some multi speaker + amp setup for your room and you bring to parties.... I mean its jut not going to happen

With your comment about just 1, its sort of revealing.... I am guessing you dont have an amp / receiver.

My suggestion would be to just get yourself an all in one little dilly like everyone else has in college. I have this thing, and friends still ask me to bring it over to their houses:
