X3400 is not available anymore where I live, amazon.ca is selling for cad 749. Local shop is giving X3500 for the same price.
Oh gotcha. Is 4400 cheaper than 3500? Get whichever is cheaper and put money towards the sub. :)

I checked some have open box piece for cad 670, I'd rather have brand new for cad 740

Agreed. You want new and with warranty.

I don’t see a Denon 3500 on Amazon.ca though. That $740 CAD would be $567 USD, cheaper than a 3400 here typically on sale at $600 USD. If you can get that price from an authorized Denon dealer, I don’t think there is any question it’s a good deal. But seems too good to be true. (I could be wrong).

Please look at the Sony line-up, ES Series.

I am buying it from one of the trusted stores in Canada, not worried about them not being an authorized dealer. even I am in awe how I got that deal :p

Now the AVR piece of puzzle is solved , can we discuss a lil bit about the speakers?

I have KEF Q100s (CAD 298) but still under the return period do you guys think its better to get ELAC B6.2s (CAD 349) or KEF Q150 (CAD 349) or Polk S20 (CAD 240) or ELAC B5.2s (CAD 295) Sony SS CS5 (CAD 198).

You made a good point but the question I have is why there are so many AVRs at different price points if they are practically similar? What the take of people here on THD being 0.08% @ 20hz to 20khz or 0.05% @ 20hz to 20khz?

Denon models above avr-x3500h are all rated at 0.05% rather than 0.08 I dont know if its a big deal?

I bought the AVR-X1500 but it has only one HDMI out I need atleast two. So now I debating shall I just get x2400 paying $50 extra or go with x3500 or x4400 and lets also put Sony STR DN1080 into the mix too.

Thanks
Just marketing as far as having fairly similar units with some feature differences at different price points, I think there are too many myself.

THD difference between .08 and .05 is negligible. While a goal of low THD (or better THD+N), human hearing can have trouble distinguising 1%. Your speakers have more significant distortion in any case.

Get an avr that meets your needs for features/connectivity. If worried about power an avr with pre-outs is a good option. If considering the Denons the 3xxx series and above have both pre-outs and Audyssey XT32, which are nice features to have.

If they are already at your home, I would try the Kef speakers with the new AVR and see if you like them. I’ve never heard those before but there are some people here that really like Kef.

I like the speakers even with the x1500 but I have not heard other speakers, so if there is anything better for not too much price bump I can get that instead.

Any suggestions for a cheap sub for the time being till I save for a better one?
Dayton Audio S1000 - (CAD 256) or Polk HTS 10 (CAD 265)

You need a subwoofer if you want a theater. It will chew up a bit of your budget though, but definitely worthwhile. I would solve that then the speakers last. Maybe look at the suggestions above from Shadyj’s post.

Yes I am considering saving for SVS but for the time being is there anything decent enough?
I was thinking Dayton Audio S1000 (CAD 256) or Polk HTS 10 (CAD 265) or Polk PSW111 (CAD 198) or Pioneer SW8MK2 (CAD 160)

I would stick with the Q100s from that bunch.

If its just a temporary sub to fill in while you save up for a real sub, you might as well buy the cheapest one. Get the Pioneer. It will give you some bass, and it will take a load off the Q100's low end.
