Just burned the iso using a Verbatim (which gave me trouble before) and Nero here at work. It seems to have worked so far.
I'll run home and try it at lunch.

CDR Media Code Identifier

CDR Media Code Identifier tells you which company actually produced a certain CD-R or CD-RW disk – not just the brand name it is being sold under. This program might come in handy when buying and avoiding being ripped off with expensive brand burner media when you could be buying a cheaper brand which is in fact the exact same media just with a different label.

It's not the CR-R's, it's the actual player after the upload took. They're having audio problems.

Any particular movies????

Currently re-watching (this moment) Shrek 3, about half way through it, and NO problems at all.
I even want to say, it looks better than when I watched last night????:confused:
Don't know why, but looks a tad sharper and a tad more contrasty (don't ask me why:confused:, and I only had ~2 beers last night)

Hi Ho

I just updated my A2 directly from the net and it installed the 2.7 firmware. I haven't played a movie yet so I don't know if it's any quicker but it did install v2.7.

I updated last night and after watching another episode of Planet Earth, everything seems to be fine... not sure that the load time is any better. Does anyone know what this update included?

From the Toshiba site.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q1. What does this update do?

A1. This firmware update adds support for 1080p/24Hz output and for more on-screen language display options. In addition, this firmware update improves network connectivity for supporting the download of web- enabled network content associated with certain HD DVD discs, and also addresses certain disc playback and HDMI/DVI related issues identified by Toshiba.

Q5. The HDMI output does not work or works intermittently with the HDMI or DVI input on my HDTV or monitor. Does the new firmware address that issue?

A5. The firmware update addresses and improves HDMI and DVI connectivity issues. If you still experience such issues, try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable. Make sure your display input is set to HDMI (or DVI). If your display has more than one HDMI/DVI input, make sure that all connected HDMI/DVI source devices are powered on (even if not in use). If none of these solve the issue, please turn off the TV and the HD DVD player. Check all connections. Disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable. Turn on the TV first and then turn on the HD DVD player. Should you continue to experience issues, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.

Q6. During HD DVD playback I sometimes experience pixelization, block noise or audio dropouts. Sometimes playback freezes or stops. Sometimes, playback is not smooth. Does the new firmware address these issues?

A6. This firmware update addresses various playability issues. You should also check to be sure that the disc is clean and, if the disc will not operate at all, that you are inserting the disc with the right side up. In the event that playback freezes or stops, press and hold the ON/STANDBY button on the front of the player for approximately ten seconds. This will cause the player to turn off. After the player turns off, turn the player back on by pressing the ON/STANDBY button, and then press the OPEN/CLOSE button to remove the disc. Should you continue to experience issues, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319- 6684. Should you continue to experience issues, please contact Toshiba Customer Solutions at (800) 319-6684.

Before anyone asks, no that does not include the A2.;)
As well, that looks to be from the LAST update, which added 1080p/24hz to the A20 and XA2.

Granted, Toshiba is not known to give out all the info on their updates.

Yeah, it was version 2.5

A1. This firmware update adds support for 1080p/24Hz output to the HD-A20 and HD-XA2 players. For the HD-A2, HD-A2W, HD-D2, HD-A20 and HD-XA2 players, it adds more on-screen language display options. So, I guess they fixed the problems that people were having with the 1080p/24hz 2.5 version (but as usual did not say what they fixed):mad:

I checked a couple HD-DVD discs and the player certainly seems to load them faster. It also seems to boot up faster. I wish I had timed startup times before and after.

Yeah, I have the last few firmware versions on CD, so I may check if I can go back to older version for re-testing load times.
LOL, still it is 3 times faster than the XA1. (WISH they do some improvements on that)

Is it possible that 1080p support could be added to the HD A2 via firmware update?

That would be nice, but I seriously doubt that Toshiba is going to put much more effort into a discontinued product beyond fixing the problematic quirks that exist within it. More to the point; Why would they sacrifice future sales of higher end and future generation models to do so?

BREAKOUT THOSE TRANSFORMER DISCS....:);)

As others (as well me) said before, Toshiba is terrible about letting known, what was fixed/updated.
Over at AVS, the XA2 will now pass bitstream audio, so you fellows with new AVRs should check this (HDMI), and now should read the actual audio playing.
Example DD+, or DolbyTrueHD, etc...

Also, saw that the volume level issues have been fixed (all of you fellows complaining on Transformers, should recheck your disc.

See this thread here (granted the talk, is on the XA2, but the files for most fixes are combined for the other players)

Does anyone notice that passing the HD Audio Codecs Bitstream to a capable receiver brings the audio up a bit.
The first disc I tested was Phantom of the Opera because we all know this disc and it's low volume problem. It was louder than it was before.
Then Checked Transformers, which I watched a couple days ago, I put the Volume all the way up on my Onkyo 805 the first time I watched it, now I could not without hurting my ears.

Anyone else notice it?.

I installed this guy yesterday and it appears to be working fine. I did notice what seemed to be slightly better load times, but I didn't try many dics. Will have to revisit to check out audio levels.

can anyone help me do this update....

I burned the ISO file to a disk alright but my problem is when I put it in. After putting it in, I get the prompt "Do you want to upgrade" blah blah...so I click yes then an error.."Can not find the server"...somehow it think that it should get the update via ethernet or something.

I would really appreciate if you can tell me how you did yours....

This is a problem with the disk you burned. I have had the same problem with the one I created. Ended up giving up and am waiting for it to work in the automatic download.
