I've had a lot of Fords over the years, being a Ford employee and all. As a rule, they've been very good, except my '01 Cobra. I decided after the Cobra that I wouldn't give SVT products any more of my money and I'm very happy with my decision to go with the Corvette this time around.

I don't get the obsession with Honda and Toyota but I seem to be in the minority on that issue.
The general consensus is that people who buy domestic don't get it at all. It's not about supporting your country, or supporting US workers (which was pointed out earlier to actually be counter-productive), it's about buying the best product. How can you expect people to buy crappy products, and be making a rational decision at the same time? They're no different then people that buy 200 dollar cable risers. They're putting their money into something they've rationalized to be good. Rationalization, a lie to make yourself feel good.

Buy any car you want, doesn't bother me. Just don't complain about other car manufactures, and don't take shots because others made a different decision then you. Someone buy a car that doesn't help you out? Maybe you're working for the wrong company.

I haven't complained about other car companies, nor have I taken any shots at anybody or any thing. That's a complete mis-characterization of what I said, almost as if you are looking for an argument where there isn't one. I simply said that I don't get the obsession with Honda and Toyota. That's a very neutral statement that only describes my reaction to those products. I haven't said anything about their quality, design, performance, origin or any other thing about those cars. Most of all, I didn't call them crappy and insult their owners.

I do rather resent the implication that I'm dissing other manufacturers for the benefit of my employment. Perhaps it escaped your attention that I work for Ford, yet I bought a Chevrolet? How does that play into your scenario that I'm plugging for the benefit of my employer? A: It doesn't. Your comments are unwarranted and I find your implication personally insulting.

Apparently, you reserve for yourself the right to be judgmental, to make sweeping generalizations and to insult people for the decisions they make. That's to be expected of a fanboy, calling other products crappy as a sweeping generalization. But don't bring your hostility to me. I almost bought a V6 Accord once but decided that it wasn't worth the high asking price. They're pretty expensive. I also wrote up a deal on a Precidia once, but decided a Mustang convertible was more my style. Just recently, I also considered a WRX or an Evo before the Vette. I like the GTR and the R8 but they are simply too expensive. I love my Vette and it's affordable for me. If you want to call it crappy and say I lied to myself and rationalized that decision, that is more a reflection of you than me.

As far as Honda and Toyota go, I've shopped them. Apparently I don't see what so many other people see in them. If I saw some compelling reason to buy one of those cars, I would. It makes no difference to Ford if I buy a Chevrolet or a Toyota or a Honda. They are all competitors of Ford. I buy what suits my taste, budget and requirements but unlike yourself, I don't insult other people for doing the same.

On topic: Chevy.
Dad had his fair share of Fords, and he seems to like Chevy a whole lot better. Not to mention, most of my family works (or worked) for GM.

All the times I've had to repair vehicles, GM is WAY more straightforward than Ford. Every brand has unique pitfalls of repair.

I like what Ford seems to be doing with it's newer products; but they'll have to get some trust back from me though.

Off topic: VW
An old Beetle may be old technology, but you can't hardly break them.

I'd have an old '69 Van (no camper van), and the GTI that I'm still working on.
Now I gotta find me a van! ;)

I got my first set of tools when I was in third grade, and rebuilt my first engine at fifteen. (just for background info)
My dad was always a Ford guy, and so was I, up until 1984. (when I bought my first Nissan)

Ford starters were famous for going bad; the starter drive would go bad, and it would grind the teeth on the flywheel. Not to mention the cheap bushing they had on the starter shaft, instead of a bearing.
I can't count how many starters, water pumps, and timing gears and chains I've changed.

(American cars were known for their built-in obsolescence.
The name of the game was to increase the parts and repair end of the business.)
95% of American cars had Nylon coated timing gears to make them quiet; even though that meant they would self destruct at about 50k miles.

I could go on and on for pages, if I was a faster typist.

Regards,
Rick

I've had to change my belt a couple of times already in the last 30k miles or less I think, on my Ranger. The electrics are pretty bad. I haven't had interior lights in many years! Nor the glove compartment light, otherwise my battery will die! (pulled the fuses) Then again, the truck still runs... and that's what counts. I could use better handling, hehe.

My family used to have an early 90's Blazer, those huge fat ones. That was a sweet truck, albeit a gas guzzler. I drool over cars all the time, but always do my best to sit tight. I'd love me some power windows, power mirrors, power seats some day. :p

oh yeah, I once broke my jack when changing out a flat. The kit fits in a certain way in the right/back, so I looked for a replacement. Ford dealership wanted $400-500!! Yoikes. $20+ or so at the nearby shop, but it doesn't fit in the spot. I worry about it time to time, as if I was to be in accident and the box flew everywhere and was to hit my head... Oh well....

MY bad, I thought a read a post of yours complaining about people not keeping money in America, but I guess it was someone else. Never post when sleepy.

Is it still fanboyism if you've own several different brands and had experience with countless more and make an informed decision based on that? BTW, the new GTR's launch control feature destroys the transmission and voids the warranty. Yeah, hardcore lame.

Neither does GM/FORD/Chrysler. That is why they are in trouble.

The 'obsession' is getting a trouble free car that will still be running reliably when you get tired of it at 225K.

I have a '99 Nissan Altima with 176K on it right now. The car runs so well that I don't see not getting another 50K out of it.
I can't say that for '99 mid-sized car from the big three. I don't have that level of confidence.

I had the plastic piece that the arm of the sun visor inserts into break. The Nissan dealership said $200 for a visor kit.

The scrap yard said bring a screw driver and $10... You got to think for yourself.

Don't worry about it Dave. Sooner or later Sheep rubs everyone the wrong way. Just blow it off.

This ought to make you happy. Just picked up this baby last night.

2007 Mustang GT. It's my 4th Stang. I got $6000 for my 95 as a trade-in.

So I guess that should tell you where I stand. Screw Chevy!! :D

But I had Hondas as a teenager. They were ok. There are models of every car maker that I like. As long as you maintain your car, it should last no matter what the brand. By the way, my wife has a 1991 Nissan 240SX that has 270,000 miles on it, and besides a cooling problem if you're stuck in traffic, it runs just fine.

Yeah. that's what the store told me to do as well. I already had the 20$ jack in hand, money out, so I never bothered. My bad. The point of my story was how much they dared to ask for a replacement jack. Not the laziness of forgoing the yard.

EDIT: nice photos darien..... i should stay away from car threads.... where's the drooling emoticon anyways? hehe

Sweet stang!! One of my golf partners has a "highly modified" '07. He's got the louvers and old school wheels to make it look like a '69? I forget which year it's supposed to mimic.

Anyway...it's a total sleeper. No hood scoop or nothin'......it looks totally stock. He spent a bundle for turbo's and an inter cooler and his stang now dyno's at 655HP!!
Everything fits snugly under the hood.......

He's got skinny small tires on it and run's 11's in the quarter. If he put some slicks on...woah...he'd definitely knock off some time. The track told him he couldn't run anymore unless he buys a firesuit and stuff...LOL

Thanks dude. Sleepers are sweet. Nothin' like pulling up next to a BMW or Vette and totally whoopin' their ***! My mother had a friend who's husband had squeezed a small block V8 into a VW bug!!! Now that car was BAD-***!! When he decided to sell it, I begged my mom to buy it for me, but there was NO way she was handing a car like that to a 16 year old kid. :D

I'll be swapping out the rims and tires pretty soon. Gotta get rid of the stock exhaust too. It's too damn quiet. I've had Magnaflow exhaust on my last 2 Stangs, so I'll be going with Magnaflow again for this one.

Nice ride, Darien! Even if it is a Ford:p
Can't say much; I had a '90 GT, same color. I really liked that car. My Chevy buddies rode me hard (pun intended) for that one and the other Fords/Lincolns Iv'e owned.

Thanks dude. As a teenager, I was into imports. But when my mom came home with an 86 convertible GT when I was a kid, I got hooked on Mustangs. So far, I've had an 86, a 92 (stolen ), a 95 and now this one.

I appreciate all kinds of cars, (I'd really love to have an Audi A6, but could never afford one). I don't really get the fanboyism, but whatever, to each his own. I'm a "bang for the buck" kinda guy, and Mustangs have the performance and looks I like at a price that won't kill me. The more I drive my 07, the more I like it. It's got a lot of little options that I didn't even know it had that are pretty sweet, (traction control, tire pressure monitor, etc.) It's even got heated seats, which I thought was stupid until yesterday morning, when it was 35 degrees outside. :D

If money were no object, I'd be driving a Lamborghini Diablo, but that'll never happen.

Those newer Mustangs w/ aftermarket exhaust have the best sound I've heard other than the Corvettes. Nice looking ride!

The new Mustangs are awesome cars, especially for the price. Magnaflows are a good choice. They really make the Ford mod motor sing. I like that color too. It really shows the lines and contours of the body style. I've had six Mustangs so far and I'll probably get another one soon depending on how the job situation looks. It's a great choice for style, comfort and lots of v8 power.

As far as "screw Chevy", I can only offer this American Icon from Chevy that gets my gears turning (when we don't have 6" of snow on the ground anyway).
