I actually love crap like that. I mean, you're not paying $250K for the output of the turntable. You're paying for the uniqueness and craftmanship of the thing. You have to admit, those are some impressive machines.

It's not different than anything else... even molding. You can go to Home Depot and buy standard crown molding for a few bucks a foot, or you go to a craft house and get something completely unique that's $40/foot. It's all relative I guess.

On topic, why would anyone buy a turn table at all? Then again, I don't have an e-reader and still get magazines and a newspaper and go to the library .

Why do people buy external DACs and hook them up to receivers with built in DACs?

There is often no logic in this hobby, or any other hobby for that matter.

For the record, I own a TT, and an external DAC (but my DAC is on a 2 channel analog preamp).

I was just looking at some of the other stuff on the site. Looking at the speakers, I wonder how some of those would even sound. But you know, I really think the big horn speakers look cool. The right ones in the right room would just look awesome. I had a client who had a set of Acapella Horns. They looked really cool but I never got to listen to them.

Same thing applies to buying Ferraris and Lambourghinis..... Speed limit is still between 60 to 75mph

IMO, logic takes a back seat to snake oil or in this case, opulent looks and bragging rights.

One could still take them to a track or autocross event.

I'd rather have a true driver oriented car (I'm saving for a Lotus Exige) which I track regularly, rather than a garage queen/ showpiece that rarely sees tarmac.

I like the diamond encrusted Beats by dre headphones for $1,000,000.00 lol... Probably the only thing on the sight worth its asking price since you can always take the diamonds off the headphones and make a nice frog broach

when someone spends that kind of money on something its because they have way too much money and want something different and over the top..
