She got the flowers right before I showed up at her place. She was so happy that she gave me a....oh never mind...you don't want to hear about it...
I missed your post, but it is funny, that it actually worked out well that way. I guess one of the first date concerns is having nothing to talk about, and between her not making it and our next date, we talked on the phone a few times... so by the time we actually had a date, we were full of conversations and could skip the small talk. It actually might be budding into a relationship. :p

I called the concierge at American Express last night and sent her flowers for today, which made me think of this thread. I think she'll like 'em (for 80 bucks hopefully they send a damn nice looking set).

I figured I owed you guys the update anyways, since you guys helped. :)

...

So, more advice.... dinner and a movie or movie then dinner?:) I know that date is played out, but, well, I like movies....:D

Just make sure you brush your teeth, wear deodorant, clean clothes, good fragrance. Smell is important for woman because it sets the tone. Shower a couple hours before you meet up. Scent is strongly tied to memory so smell your best.

Be nice, Be smart, Be Confidant. Talk and don't be too clingy.

Well, we aren't on date number 1 anymore, but I appreciate the advice.

Actually now that you mention it maybe movie THEN dinner is better since you'd smell your freshest at the beginning of the night and at the movie. I generally don't smell bad anyways (*sniff sniff* testing...) ...although I don't wear any fragrance.

I realize I'm overthinking things, but, hey, I'm tired today and its better than this conference call.

The food at the theater is almost as expensive as a good steak house anymore.

If you want a more intimate movie experience, attend a late afternoon matinee movie since the crowds are smaller. Then get a nice dinner afterwards. I do it all the time. Crowds at both venues are lower at these times.

Your watching the movie while everybody else is eating and your eating while their at the theater.

And of course you can always go out for drinks after dinner, too.

I'm going with your advice - big point on the crowds being less earlier.

Crowded theaters are terrible.

Seeing the movie first also gives you something else to talk about at dinner (the movie) ... so hopefully you pick one worth talking about. The movie can also set the tone for the date so I like comedies. Wedding Crashers or the Hangover would be a great 1st/2nd date movie for me - so many great lines (if that's your and you think her sense of humor). Romantic comedies work well too. I would stay away from something too heavy/serious. You want your first dates to be fun not necessarily deep or overly serious.

Dinner and a movie works well. A dinner and a concert, play or comedy club are good alternatives on the same level.

$80 dollars...hmmmm.

I told my wife when we first started dating that I didn't buy flowers/cards and therefore don't do Valentines day and the like...she asked why...I told her that "I didn't want to here 'you used to buy me flowers' 20 years from now". :D

Just remember your job is not to get her to like you. Your job is to not mess it up.;)
As far as date movies. My favorite is Hitch, but it's a better third date movie.
