OK thx buddy
I really think that's the best idea at this point.

But please, stay in touch to tell us your discovery. I'm so dam curious about this, as I spent a considerable amount of time trying to help you out.
But I know that you knew that already; just making sure that you don't disappear into cyber space. :)

Hi

I think that my remote may no longer work and all I want is this reciever to be reset back to factory defaults as it is now in my garage. Does anyone know how to do a manual reset on this receiver to get it back to factory default settings?
Pretty old receiver, and I'm not sure this will apply to it, but give this a try.View attachment 7571

For your benefit...no...please tell me how :p
If you download your Yamaha RX-V1800 Instruction Manual from your own country, the Yamaha Canadian web site (which I already gave the link right here in this own very thread at post #4); and then go to almost the last page, and it is well indicated there how to do a reset for your particular receiver model #.

* I also believe that it is the exact same procedure than the one I just gave to popotoys. See my previous post (post #13, in my ditto quote). It is also included on my original post (post #4).

Hope that helps, and please let me know if you are full running and extremely happy with the results in your new place. :)

Big Cheers,
Bob

Thx, I'll try this out as well.

Waiting to hear back from the store that I bought it from. Hopefully the technician there knows. FYI, I was able to get my remote working. Cleaned up the contacts for the batteries. So everything is fine now, but it would be interesting to know how to do the factory reset for the future.

You're in luck brother Canadian. :)
After some research, I found that your Yamaha RX-V800 receiver's manual can be downloaded from here:

-> Click on the red logo at right: "GET MANUAL". Then, just go to the lower page, and write the #s from the secret code in the appropriate box (no need for your e-mail address), click on the red logo: "DOWNLOAD NOW". Wait about one minute, and voila!

Now: It seems that there is no specific Reset Procedure for your particular receiver, which is very surprising. So, what I assume is the right way to do is this:
[ * Plug your receiver into the AC wall outlet. Leave it OFF though (Standby).
* Then, Disconnect the AC power cord from the outlet and then plug it in again after about 30 seconds.]

Also: [Memory Guard = OFF.] So, the Memory Guard feature should be set to OFF.

And for the clear answer to your previous question, here:
[ * Your Yamaha RX-V800 receiver is not disconnected from the AC power source as long as it is connected to the wall outlet, even if your receiver itself is turned off. This state is called the STANDBY mode. In this state, your receiver is designed to consume a very small quantity of power.]

Here you go, the complete enchilada.

Hope that you have a great day & that it helps to put you back on your feet & running full steam. :)

Thx Lordoftherings, I do have the manual in pdf and was surprised that there is nothing in it that indicates that a factory reset is possible. I'll have to see about the MEM Guard though, hopefully its not only accessible from the remote!

Same for me bro. The manual for most of their receivers, including the RX-V750 (which is the model just before yours) has the reset procedure that I already gave you on my prior post, post #4.

I believe that you can pretty much access al the setup settings from your menus, all from the front panel.
* The Memory Guard has to be disable in order to make some changements in your settings.
But if your receiver was unplugged for more than two days, I believe, it autommatically reset itself to the Default settings, the original ones of when the receiver was first purchased brand new.

The original remote control for your receiver should be easily acquire from your Yamaha dealer service center.

And like I said previously, the best remote for you to get, is the Logitech Harmony 550 Universal remote control. It is easily available online for less than $30, and it contains all the codes for over 500,000 other remote controls, if not much more by now. You'll love it, so as your wife.

And that's also why I gave you Yamaha own phone number from their service center. But you can easily look for the very best one, close to your living area, by simply Google the right combination of words, which I know already you are very well calibrated for that.

I wish you the very best on your quest.
