I don't know as I'm not an expert in this field. But my guess is in the neighborhood of 30%.
So far I haven't spend anything because I have no money....

1. I would say the room is at least 50%.

2. I'm currently living in an apt, so I haven't spent anything on the room. I'm shopping for a home now, and having the right place to set up my home theatre is a very big consideration. My purchase will be influenced by this space and therefore a good chunk of money may be spent based on one room.

1) Room design is at least 40% of the sound quality

2) Unfortunately I've had to make due with what was given to me (no dedicated theater room yet), but I have spend about 10% of total system value into improving the sound quailty of the room, primarily insulation, sonically transparent speaker grills, and ceiling treatment

I have a slightly different take on this. The acoustics of the room and the speakers are part of a coupled system. It is important that they work well together. Therefore, they are both equally important.

Amplifiers must match the speakers well and be able to deliver clean power on demand.

The differences in between digital sources are minimal.

Let's not forget about the most crucial element - the recording.

So my ranking is as thus (excluding the recording):

35% Room acoustics / Speaker placement
35% Speakers
20% Amplification
10% Source (assuming digital)
