i find that the .1 in my setup can really make or break the reproduction in my room... Its important that it be very detailed. I like to describe it like a conversation on a first date. Even if your interested based on looks or the amount of fun you had, if you cant really "feel" the connection with the date or movie, you feel dissapointed. I'm really looking for the "wow" factor that makes me feel like i'm part of the whole experience... Bold, full, and warm.

Sound quality is of greatest importance to me. I will be using the sub in a dark room -- who cares what it looks like? I want the best sound I can get for the buck.

Contest Question: What features are most important in a home theater subwoofer?

My answer: The most important thing is it's got to have good, clear extension down to the low 20s and hopefully (I mean, what the heck, right?) a little below that too. Also of importance is it's got to be detailed and fast. There's nothing worse than muddy bass, bass that just sounds like a dull thud. It's got to be warm and enveloping and energize the room. And it's GOT to make my neighbours scream!

I picked quality and accuracy of LFE playback. All of the other things are nice, but if the subwoofer isn't reproducing the sound it is supposed to be reproducing, then it's worthless.

I don't know if anyone else has said so yet, but the price would be the first and possibly most important influencing factor when choosing a subwoofer, for me at least.

Let's say I have in mind to spend $800.00 on a subwoofer. Well, I'm going to immediately eliminate anything that costs more than a $1000.00 no matter how good they look, how accurate and ear pleasing and earth shattering the sound.

Everyone has a budget, and from within that budget you then consider a handful of models with good word of mouth (from both users and professional reviewers) and then seek those models out for a live demonstration where possible.

Excluding the "other" option, I would be most concerned with the overall sound abilities as in does it work for both movies and music and how will it do on both low, medium, and loud volumes in the space I'd be using it.

Deep extension is important but I guess I place aesthetics/size a close second 'cause I don't believe you need a subwoofer the size of a refrigerator to adequately perform.

I believe that a subwoofer for home theatre should be able to have play deep (20-25Hz) and loud because you are primarily using it during movies. Not only you can hear it, but feel the bass too.
In contrast, a subwoofer primarily for music playback should concentrate on being accurate and having the lowest distortion possible.

I should win cause I will blather to everyone here how great this sub is, which equates to cheap advertising on Onix and AV123's part.

All kidding aside I think that this would a be a wonderful addition to my home theater and give me even more bass that is equivicly accurate.

For movies, its maximum extension for me. Accuracy plays a big role too, but movies NEED extension. Try a movie on a subwoofer with a -3dB point of 40Hz, then one with more THD and GD but a -3dB point at 20Hz. What would you perfer for a movie?

Acuracy and SPL level are the two most important characteristics of a good subwoofer.

Gotta be loud and its gotta be deep. Something that will shake the house off the foundation made for maximum impact with movies.

Loud Pounding Bass

I really enjoy a sub for movie viewing and love to feel the bass put out by a great sub. So loud and low is what I look for

The are a lot of factors that determine my choice in subs, accuracy is number one. I watch a ton of movies and listen to a lot of music ( I love to listen to live music and DVD Audio/SACD) I need to use subs that give me the best of both worlds. I currently own a B&W ASW600 and an Energy 8 inch sub ( yes, an older model). Both have met my needs well.

Hum......how well would another sub met my needs? Maybe an Onix X-sub.

I want clean bass, with maximum output that also goes low. That's why I have an IB. This sub would be good for a bedroom setup.
