1. What size subwoofer is most appealing to you? 8”, 10”, 12” or ??
12" the bigger the badder.
2. Do you prefer single our dual driver design, either active of with passive radiators?
Active, Single or dual, which ever sounds better
3. Do you like the sound of front firing or floor firing designs?
Front firing
4. In choosing between SPL or low frequency extension, which is attribute more important to you?
SPL, my room is large, if I need to make a sacrifice I'd keep the SPL
5. Do you prefer super compact (high pressure) subwoofers or are conventional (larger) designs more desirable?
compact, WAF is everything
6. Do you place your sub in a corner of the room or somewhere away from the wall?
In a corner about a foot from the walls
7. Would you rather have a sub with a built in amplifier or a dedicated stand alone amplifier?
Built in amp
8. Would you rather have an Auto Room EQ system with a measuring microphone or manual parametric controls allow you to set the EQ yourself?
Talking subs? I have trouble believing an auto EQ would work at frequencies below 60hz. I'll say let me do it.
9. What price range do you feel is the most desirable for a high performance subwoofer system (be realistic! )
I think anything over $1000 is esoteric
10. What color and finish is the most desirable to you? If you had the choice of two finishes, what would they be?
Black and Red oak

10. What color and finish is the most desirable to you? If you had the choice of two finishes, what would they be?
1) 12" or 15"
2) Any of the above... A well designed passive radiator setup suits me just fine. (It says "our designs", not sure what that means?) It depends on how the sub sounds, a good sub is a good sub no matter the type.
3) Can't say that I hear a big difference between the two. I'm half and half in terms of owning forward vs down firing.
4) Extension is more entertaining. Must have some decent output at 20Hz at least, even if it drops off quick after that.
5) Conventional.
6) Near the corner.
7) Current sub has a separate amp. While that works for me, it also eats up some of my rack space, so I would prefer to have it integrated into the sub.
8) I would prefer manual controls.
9) I'd say $500-750.
10) Birdseye maple or rosewood.

1. What size subwoofer is most appealing to you? 8”, 10”, 12” or ??

12-inch. The smaller drivers are too small for mid-to-large rooms without using multiple subs or a sub with multiple small drivers.

2. Do you prefer single our dual driver design, either active of with passive radiators?

A single high-quality, long-throw driver.

3. Do you like the sound of front firing or floor firing designs?

Doesn't matter. But I prefer the look of down-firing.

4. In choosing between SPL or low frequency extension, which is attribute more important to you?

Low-frequency extension.

5. Do you prefer super compact (high pressure) subwoofers or are conventional (larger) designs more desirable?

Conventional (larger) enclosures, please. Super compact subs sacrifice too much quality in the name of being "cute" or invisible.

6. Do you place your sub in a corner of the room or somewhere away from the wall?

Along a side wall, away from corners. Tends to be less boomy.

7. Would you rather have a sub with a built in amplifier or a dedicated stand alone amplifier?

Built-in amp. But an option to bypass the built-in amp and connect a more powerful external amp would be a nice option that most others seem to lack.

8. Would you rather have an Auto Room EQ system with a measuring microphone or manual parametric controls allow you to set the EQ yourself?

Auto EQ w/microphone. Preferably with the ability to manually tweak the settings if desired.

9. What price range do you feel is the most desirable for a high performance subwoofer system (be realistic! )

No more than $1000 before shipping. Perhaps a bit more for high-quality veneers.

10. What color and finish is the most desirable to you? If you had the choice of two finishes, what would they be?

Fantasy: Walnut Burl, Curly Bubinga. Realistic: Rosewood, Medium Cherry.

Contest Questions:
1. What size subwoofer is most appealing to you? 8”, 10”, 12” or ?? -
12" - a well built 12" sub will extend low enough to satisfy my cravings, and play fast enough to not sound sloppy.

2. Do you prefer single our dual driver design, either active of with passive radiators?
Single with passive radiators

3. Do you like the sound of front firing or floor firing designs?
Front firing - seem cleaner and tighter in the subs I have heard

4. In choosing between SPL or low frequency extension, which is attribute more important to you?
Low frequency - since I never crank the volume to extremes

5. Do you prefer super compact (high pressure) subwoofers or are conventional (larger) designs more desirable?
smaller is nicer - space is always a premium. Less surface area for kids to play with

6. Do you place your sub in a corner of the room or somewhere away from the wall? Away from the corner - 1/3 down the left side wall of a rectangular room

7. Would you rather have a sub with a built in amplifier or a dedicated stand alone amplifier?
Sub with built in amp unless I was doing a DIY sub - enclosure would be simpler with a stand alone amp in a rack

8. Would you rather have an Auto Room EQ system with a measuring microphone or manual parametric controls allow you to set the EQ yourself?
Auto Room EQ if it works even close to as good as a manual eq tuning

9. What price range do you feel is the most desirable for a high performance subwoofer system (be realistic! )
1000-2000 dollars

10. What color and finish is the most desirable to you? If you had the choice of two finishes, what would they be?

Single driver/active radiator

3. Do you like the sound of front firing or floor firing designs?

Front Firing

4. In choosing between SPL or low frequency extension, which is attribute more important to you?

Tough call, but low frequency extension, in a pinch

5. Do you prefer super compact (high pressure) subwoofers or are conventional (larger) designs more desirable?

Compact subs appeal more to me due to smaller footprint

6. Do you place your sub in a corner of the room or somewhere away from the wall?

Typically, I use corner placement

7. Would you rather have a sub with a built in amplifier or a dedicated stand alone amplifier?

Dedicated stand alone amp

8. Would you rather have an Auto Room EQ system with a measuring microphone or manual parametric controls allow you to set the EQ yourself?

Auto Room EQ is preferred

9. What price range do you feel is the most desirable for a high performance subwoofer system (be realistic! )

$600-1000 is realistic for me (with my med school budget!)

10. What color and finish is the most desirable to you? If you had the choice of two finishes, what would they be?

I love the darker finishes, like walnut. However, the glossy piano black is my all time fave.

Pick me!

1. What size subwoofer is most appealing to you? 8”, 10”, 12” or ??
The smallest woofer needed to achieve the bass response that I want, which would extend to the low 30's/high 20's and be of a reasonable SPL.

2. Do you prefer single our dual driver design, either active of with passive radiators?
I am of the opinion that within certain size constraints, dual drivers are better. I don't have any technical expertise on active or passive radiators.

3. Do you like the sound of front firing or floor firing designs?
I prefer floor firing aesthetics better.

4. In choosing between SPL or low frequency extension, which is attribute more important to you?
A flat response curve to as low a frequency as possible, making multiple subs the answer to generating high SPL.

5. Do you prefer super compact (high pressure) subwoofers or are conventional (larger) designs more desirable?
Super compact.

6. Do you place your sub in a corner of the room or somewhere away from the wall?
Near a wall, but not necessarily in a corner.

7. Would you rather have a sub with a built in amplifier or a dedicated stand alone amplifier?
Price being equal, I would prefer a seperate amp to drive a subwoofer, for cases of upgradeitis

8. Would you rather have an Auto Room EQ system with a measuring microphone or manual parametric controls allow you to set the EQ yourself?
AutoEQ would definetely be easier.

9. What price range do you feel is the most desirable for a high performance subwoofer system (be realistic! )
I couldn't justify spending more than $1000 on my current subwoofer, so there you go.

10. What color and finish is the most desirable to you? If you had the choice of two finishes, what would they be?
Until I end up with my final speakers, satin black is the best for hiding and blending in with my system. You make a coffee table subwoofer though, and I'll take it wood-colored.

Either single or dual and passive radiators are fine

3. Do you like the sound of front firing or floor firing designs?
Not too particular as long as it is a well designed sub. Although floor firing do have better protection of the driver from kids or pets.

4. In choosing between SPL or low frequency extension, which is attribute more important to you?
I would say both but if I had to choose low freq because you can always add more subs in order to get the spl.

5. Do you prefer super compact (high pressure) subwoofers or are conventional (larger) designs more desirable?
Larger designs have physics helping them make a more cost effective subwoofer.
