If the cross-talk specs bother you just mark them out in your owner's manual and write in what you would like to see, you are not hearing it anyway!

I feel certain I will keep using a Yammy AVR as a pre/pro but will likely upgrade to the 1800.
Man, you & GlocksRock are pretty loyal to the Yammy clans.:D

The new Yammy Z11 is pretty hot. In terms of performance, I think the Yammy 1800 should be close, minus all the fancy features that you would never use.

I'm not upgrading my audio system anytime soon, though. I'm not like you guys who upgrade like every 3 months. Geez.

But the next time I upgrade, which hopefully will be no sooner than 3 or 4 years, it will most likely be 3 Krell preamps + a Krell 6Ch amp.

Since you are just playing around can you shoot me a vial of Diprivan, I need to knock out this lady that is driving me crazy in the ICU!

And for your information, my AVR is over a year old...

Emotiva has the best price/performance ratio in terms of raw power and built quality. If you don't care about a ton of features you'll never use, then you can't go wrong with Emotiva! :)

I've done some reading on the mmc-1 and notice that it has "side axis" pre-outs - is this kinda like 9.1 instead of 7.1? and has anybody tried it out? Thanks

The best comparison would be to Yamaha's presence speakers.

Greg, I'm tubing you that 100 mL vial of Diprivan STAT.:D
Please knock out that crazy lady.

Oh, my goodness. One whole year old?

My Acurus RL-11 preamps are only about 12 years old.:D
My Acurus 200X3s were also 12 years old before I changed them out for the Emotiva MPS2s. My NHT speakers were also about 11 years old before I upgraded to the DefTechs. My SharpVision projector was about 11 years old before I changed to the Mitsubishi DLP.

But yes, I'm just joking about the Krell; I'm not crazy enough or rich enough.:D

But as of right now, if I were to change out my Acurus RL-11s, I would probably get either the Denon 5308, 4308, the Onkyo 905, or the Yamaha Z11. I hope Gene will also do a detail, thorough review of the Onkyo 905 and Denon 4308 or 5308 just like he did with the Z11.:D

I didn't want to upgrade, but I had to if I wanted to pass 1080p through the receiver, and get 7.1 PCM over HDMI, and of course I needed those features, so I had to upgrade... at least I didn't sell it and get the 1700, then the 1800... I showed some restraint.

Yeah, my next purchase will be the Panasonic DMP-BD50 so that I can finally get to hear DTS-MA.

Then I won't upgrade my audio system again until my Acurus preamps die.

But in the mean time, I will continue to monitor the Emotiva line of preamps & pre-pros.

Which brings me to the question, why does Greg want the Yamaha 1800 instead of the Emotiva LMC-2 pre-pro?

Because Yamaha doesn't make a pre/pro, silly.
Ha, ha, ha. Very funny.

You know what I meant.

Greg has the MPS-1, which has 200 wpc x 7. The Yamaha 1800 would be serving only as a pre-pro. This would be great as a pre-pro, but why not just get the Emotiva LMC-2 pre-pro for $700? The Yamaha 1800 is around $930-$1,000, right?

I can only speak for myself on that:
I was considering the LMC-2 to go with my LPA-1. I went for the 1800 to replace my 1500 instead.

My reasons:

1) Yamaha's proven reliability. As much as I like my Emo amp, going for one of their pre-pros was a leap of faith in comparison with Yamaha's track record.

2) Internal EQ. Not necessarily the YPAO, but the GEQ as well. I don't have the perfect acoustically treated room. Nor can I completely fix that considering it also serves as a living room as well.

Could be because the LMC-2 isn't out yet...? I would love to chcek out the Emo pre/pros but since I already had a RX-V1600 before, I knew exactly how well the 1800 would work with my setup, and I didn't want to risk not being able to do the things I needed with the Emo gear.

Yeah, time is money.

I don't think I could have waited for Emotiva to come out with the LMC-2 either.

I think the Yamaha makes an excellent pre-pro. It's just that it costs about $930 and the LMC-2 is suppose to cost $700. But time is money. Having to wait 6 months is too long. So I don't blame you guys for getting the Yamaha.:D

That will do it.

Plus, I am uncerain if the EMO's have different zones. Does anyone know?

How would you describe the Nuance speakers? My son lives in Edmonton and also has Nuance speakers. Is it something in the water?;)

lol. It must be something inthe water:) I personally like them. I'm no pro or anything by any means, but i think they sound great. I just hear that you gotta push enough through them which is what i'm hoping to accomplish with the lpa-1 compared to my vsx-515. I also like the way they look ( very simple) they may be over priced and got a bad wrap but they are a good deal now if you find used ones. can'ty go wrong with their lifetime warranty either:)

another note....

called up emotiva today and i gotta say I've never talked to a nicer customer service lady before, and so helpful. can't wait, fed ex says 5 days to ship to me - i sure hope so.:D

Any feedback on how they sound in your house?

Hey Nuance,

I searched for MMC-1 information and found your thread... Can you post a review of your impressions of the Emotiva equipment once you've got them set up? I'd love to hear about it... I'm coming back into the market after sitting on my Sony ES set-up driving Magnepan SMG's... I'm desperate to get myself up and running in the digital HD age, but still want to maintain a certain level of sound quality. I'll probably keep the Maggies as they aren't worth selling (old, and peculiar so the used value is low). But the wife has given the full thumbs up to get surround sound going with an HD TV!!!

Emotiva (and considering Outlaw systems too) seem to have things dialed in right feature+performance-cost=value!

Thanks,

Sengert
