Emotiva 5 channel amp? or?

I have nothing against Rotel as I think they make one of the best products out there. Rotel and Emotiva amps are pretty close in quality across the board. You will hear some horror stories on both sides. The way I see it is that a Rotel amp of comparable power to an Emotiva amp will probably cost twice as much. Having heard amps from both sides, I don't feel Rotel earns twice the price. Just my opinion.
:D you forget, this is audioholics. all amps sound the same here.

and yet, I would still feel more comfortable buying other than Emotiva brands for two reasons: warranty and looks. (til they come out with that 699 buck amp)

and no, rotels aren't twice the emotivas price. again, if you have a relationship with your dealer, you'll find the emotiva to be slightly less expensive than the rotel e.g. 1095 2k brand new.

I would rather buy a new Emotiva and get the warrantee then try to save money buying a used Rotel. Like I said, I love my Rotel, but I am also frugal, so If I can get something done for less money, I'm all about that... :)

My setup in my great room, cost me $2000, for my receiver and my amp, and now I can do the exact same setup for $1300. Whats not to like there...

I would go with a Rotel or a Parasound. These two brands have a long established history, in both sound quality and product reliability.

The Emotiva line is a new comer to the amplifier scene. Aside from the pretty faceplate and the eerily familiar aggressive internet advertising campaign (i.e. Onix Rockets), Emotiva hasn't proven itself in either sound quality or product reliability.

Funny.... Secrets had something different to say upon measuring Emotiva's 7 channel amp in their bench test review...
At two thousand dollars for seven channels x 200 watts, the bench test results of the MPS-1 are so good, they are scary.

I was also hesitant to order Emotiva sight unseen. I didn't order anything from them until I heard their equipment, but having heard it I am now convinced.

"Emotiva hasn't proven itself in either sound quality or product reliability."

You can't be serious about that statement. Emotiva is known for their exceptional sound quality. I have the DMR-1 and it sounds marvelous with both 2 channel stereo and movies.

They don't (Emotiva) have the latest technology but that is coming with their next series of gear.

It's quite obvious you have not heard any of their gear!

Happy Holidays!

really? LOL

forgive me, but it sounds like typical fanboy gibberish to me. :)
don't put yourself in the same boat as those guys.

edit: you addressed the sound quality issue best you can, but you can't address the product reliability issue seeing they're new into the game.

Maybe I can adress the reliability. My first amp from them worked for almost a week without issues and my second one made it for almost two months.Third times is always the charm...correct...?

let's hope so :D

or you can start betting in the lottery :) seeing how 'lucky' you are to have received two consecutive defective units.

6 months with my LPA-1 so far and not a glitch to be found. Only time will tell the tale if their build quality stands up to the hype. For the price, overall I'm very pleased with it's performance. Not a huge jump in overall volume but a much cleaner sound apporaching reference levels.

Im not a fanboy by any stretch of the means...

But in my eyes.... these are electronics... either they work or they don't, and it seems that the track record is pretty good, not perfect, but good enough to give them a try...

If there are problems, the company is standing behind the product, and will honor the warrantee.... What more can you ask...

Common Mike C, don't be an amp snob...:D

I am not overly concerned with the amp but if it has one more issue; I will rent a white van, fill the amp with rocks and sale it!

I wouldnt buy a complicated item such as a pre-pro from Emo at this point.

I'm coming up on almost one year with my LPA-1 and (knock wood!) it has been great. As someone already stated, we have to wait awhile and see how well their product holds up. I am guessing all us Emotiva owners will be quite happy for a long time :D

BTW, Merry X-mas to all!!!!!!!!

when did your amp break down - again? did you tell EMO? haven't they made it right?

did they just send a replacement unit the first time around? or just a module? what are they sending you now?
