Driver cleaning solution.

Hello.

I have a driver which is extremely filthy, covered in gunk, and has no voice coil, cone nor dustcap, but, is there a safe solution that I can use to clean out the part that the voice coil goes into without affecting it's performance or causing corrosion?

Meaning, will it rust or damage it in any way if I pour soap into it?

I know this sounds stupid, but, it's extremely filthy, to the point where it won't play properly because there is dirt obstructing it.

Thank you.

I would suggest trying Audio Karma - they have vintage speaker forums that provide a wealth of information about cleaning and restoring speaker components.

Thank you. I have a lot of vintage speakers so that will be very helpful. :)

Very helpful link!

I am having difficulty registering though, I haven't gotten the e-mail yet. I hope it comes soon.

Here is another link for vintage info. The LansingHeritage Forums

There are a couple of rocket scientists over there......literally a couple of NASA retirees hang out there. They are REALLY into the vintage JBLs.

Glad to help :)

I found a lot of good information there too. Given my taste in speakers these days, it's a must
