Dracula 1931 dvd and bluray comparision

I had today compare the 1931 Dracula movie, in sound and picture;
and i am sold!

The dvd dolby mono sound, was much much better, than the bluray dts hd master audio mono in my ears!!

I could with the mono dvd hear echoes and more pure sounds than the bluray dts hd master mono audio, period!.

Even the dolby digital in the bluray sound it better than the dts in the same bluray disc, the dts sound it just more louder, but sound it inferior than the dvd dolby mono.

Now about the picture the bluray had some litle more better contrast, in some parts of the movie, but i like more the spider webb in the dvd than the bluray, it feel more like a triller movie to me.

In overallt i prefer the dvd version more anytime at the day; than the bluray version!

ps. the bluray have a spanish version but for me the english is better

You do realize that this is more of an indictment/praise of the personal choices of the sound engineers who mastered this than the format itself, don't you? They both started with the same optical master they used in the 30's.

Also, the reason why the details of the softer sounds in the DVD maybe because more compression was used in that transfer? Which, of course, would be a distortion of the intended presentation.

As an aside, aside from Lugosi's definitive performance of the count, I don't think the 1931 version of Dracula is very good. The Hammer version is so much better. Nosferatu is much better (which is just a renamed version of the Bram Stoker story to avoid a lawsuit from Stoker's estate). The Coppola version is better. The other Universal monster movies from that era are better. The only thing propping up the 31 version is Lugosi'a terrific performance, otherwise it's a dull movie.

One more thing I will add, I recently rewatched the Universal Mummy, and I don't think its a terrific movie either, not as good as I remembered it. A couple good scenes, but otherwise a bit tepid. The Hammer version is much better. The big-budget action version with Brandan Fraser is not bad. Again, the only thing propping the Universal Mummy up is Karloff's great turn and the excellent make-up effects in the opening scene. My fav Universal horror movie is probably the Invisible Man. That movie is entertaining as hell, and still the best movie about someone turning invisible, as far as I am concerned.

Personally, my favorite is "Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein".
