I'm lookng into possibly getting some Axiom M80's. I have a Sony STR DA7ES receiver.. I know the 80's are 4ohm but could I use my receiver without an external amp to power them or would my amp blow-up? I don't listen to extremely loud levels of movies/music. Just wondering.
In the 5th review on this page the owner says he drives 4 ohm speakers with the Sony STR DA7ES receiver, for what it’s worth.

You could also try contacting Sony and see if they have an opinion on using it to drive 4 ohm speakers.

Cheers,

i may just wait for one to come out and use my old Yam995 with its pre-outs for now, since i don't have a blu-ray player yet.what to do, what to do. thanks again and if you have any more thoughts, please let me know.:D
Actually even if you have a BD player your 995 can still let you enjoy HD sound formats such as Dolby True HD, DD+ DTS HD etc. Just make sure you pick a BD player (most Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic models) that offers the 5.1 analog outputs. The 995 is actually quite future proof with the pre-out and multi-channel analog in features.

Do these players have on-board bass mgmt.? i believe i lose bass mgmt when using the Yam995 5.1 imputs. also, the codecs are still lossless when connected this way? i thought the uncompressed capability of hdmi was needed for that to be?

Typically they do have the speaker set up option. I thought some of them can output the HD audio formats via the 5.1/7.1 analog outputs, but you should check out the manual for the model you are interested in.
