I'll second that. I have Mits Diamond 65 inch and I'm quite happy. It's really a size to dollar thing. I just really don't have any interest in anything less than 60-65 inches. I just don't think you get that grand cinematic experience with less. I don't know that there's a 60" panel for under $5K.
There's certainly the cool factor with flat panels and that's certainly a very important consideration. For me, the flat panel is for the bedroom, the office, and spare bedroom. I just really wanted a bigger picture.
I wouldn't be concerned about a "dying" technology. You can could say plasma is going the same direction. I don't know that it means much today.
If you have unlimited funds, than a huge flat panel brings you the best of both worlds, big pic, cool tv. Other than that, I'd go for the maximum screen size for my main room. I was just looking at the 83" (I think it's 83) at the new AV super store near my house. Even with the crappy settings, the picture look pretty damn stunning in their less than perfect media room.
