Depends on the dlp and lcd. But DLP generally will have better contrast than LCD. It's main drawback is the Rainbow effect which is pretty rare.

The lcd's has Richer color dynamics for better results in rooms with ample ambient light, and the dlp's gives a Smoother video and high contrast.

My reply was unsatisfactory.

DLP is a projection technology so essentially your DLP TV is a projector with a screen. They use mirrors to reflect it on the screen. The DLP processor is a mirror based light processor. I've known a few guys that worked with the processor and it's a really nice piece of technology. The problem with past DLP systems were that the bulb and color wheel would both go out or get messed up. A bulb has a limited lifespan and a halogen bulb is no different.

LEDs last longer than halogens and generate far less heat. They also can be colored. So you can dispose of a color wheel. New DLPs should last as long as any LED LCD TV as far as light source goes.

I personally use a DLP projector for home viewing. I've found it exceptional for brightness. Sports look amazing on a DLP system. However for movies mine struggles with Contrast ratio compared to the Plasma TVs. Newer DLPs are way better than mine though and I believe they will do an excellent job on contrast ratio.

My knowledge on LCD technology is limited so I will leave that to others.

I can say that in scientific measurements Plasma's outperformed LCDs in picture quality.

I would say based on my viewing comparisons I believe DLP is a better technology at this time.

If you do go DLP get an LED DLP not a normal one.

I've never seen a DLP struggle in a room with ambient light. Are you confusing this with plasma. Also this seems to have more to do with the coating of the screen than anything else. Plasma's are even looking pretty good in ambient light these days. Besides a good curtain can save you on the electric bill.

There are 3 advantages that DLP has over LCD TVs.
1) DLP television set provides quality picture for a longer period of time compared to Plasma and LCD TV's.
2) In case of DLP, you get more as it provides the highest quality and largest television at a much lesser price.
3) DLP produces great consistent picture.

How is DLP dying? I still see them for sale in a lot of stores and I still know people buying them.

dlp is dying if you have more dollars than sense! slim is in! If you want to go large you can't beat it for dollars per square inch. take for example the Samsung HL72A650 it can be had for about $2300.00 Try shopping for a 70" plus LCD or Plasma and see what you'll pay. I have seen the sony bravia 70" advertized for $20k

You can get a 73" Mitsu DLP for about $2200 shipped... I even saw on Onecall.com yesterday they had 15% off all tv's 65" and larger, so you could have gotten a 82" Mitsu DLP for $3400 shipped. Nowhere else will you find that tv for that kind of price. Too bad only Mitsubishi and Samsung are the only players left in the DLP game.

If you don't mind poor off axis viewing and a non-sexy, big box...DLP is hard to beat bang for buck....

I use one and dig it.

The sub is about 55" tall.

To be honest I'd rather have a pool myself. More folks enjoy those than a nice projection system. I only get to use mine for super bowl parties and such.

On the sub.
You will probably need to get home depot or lowe's to make some of those cuts. 55" is beyond the distance of many good table saws. I don't even handle sheets that big myself. I have no trouble loaning you the router and jasper jig when the time comes though. If you give me some notice I'd be happy to assist you. I just got my forrest woodworker blade!

Yes, i was talking about the plasma ones used on ambient light.

do you think that in home theater if the budget is tight should the picture quality be consider or sound?

DLP is strictly for Texas Instruments technology. With some DLP TV's like projectors you're going to be seeing rainbowing and other issues. There's also 3LCD and LCOS rear-projection TV's available.

Personally in sizes about 50" I prefer RPTV's because I had to carry a 62" LCD TV before and it's ridiculously stupidly heavy compared to a 72" Mitsubishi RPTV...

Well doi agree with you RPTVs are pretty much a burden. 62 inch Lcd are pretty expensive for me....... do u think i should go for plasma?
