Again, wife issues, yes I have been with her twenty years. She wouldn’t allow the bass on when she was around as she doesn’t like it. So I would listen without when with her then listen with when on my own.

I have been married to my wife for 51 years. She made me do this. It is her system and she loves it.

A 1000 watt, all channels driven 3.1 in wall system. Yes, even the sub is in wall.

Happy wife, happy life!

But you still can have large speakers and make them seem right for the room.

Our Home Theater room.

A 7.2.4 room with fairly large speakers. We really only got a chance to fill the theater two or three times before Covid hit. My wife loves that room also for the blockbusters. I use it a lot, especially for streaming concerts and opera, and also playing all kinds of media and production work.
The secret is making the system integral with the room.

can someone advise why I’m not receiving atmos from Netflix.

since I last posted I’ve changed my setup from 5.0.0 to 5.1.2

my only input is from my TV with a 2.1 hdmi

I’ve changed my amp assign to add the top speakers.

Netflix doesn’t show the tag for atmos. I’m on the highest subscription.

I also have prime and Disney plus but haven’t tried them yet.

You sure the tv Netflix app has Atmos? The tv has the capability to pass the codec via ARC? Does it pass out Dolby Digital Plus (DD+)? The metadata for Atmos comes via DD+ with Netflix....

Atmos on Netflix is "touchy". There are only two ways I can stream Atmos from Netflix on my rig. One is via eARC using TV audio. The other is to stream to Chromecast Ultra, from by iPhone. My 4K HTPC with the Netflix App will not stream Atmos from Netflix. Somehow there is extra DRM on streaming Atmos material from Netflix. I don't see the point of this at all.

These are good questions. Netflix is hit or miss with supported devices. AND even dummer are cases like line where even if I have the premium Netflix option, I can’t use Atmos because my display is 2k. Vudu is the same way. Absolutely stoopid. I believe that most TVs will do Atmos but it’s lossy.

TBH I don’t how it works or remember exactly the details.
Something did just occur to me though. My x700 is NOT a supported device by Netflix despite having Atmos capability via BD and UHD. Even Zip drives can pass Atmos to it. Thought I should clear that up.
For Vudu though, it had something to with being a 2k display. There’s even a device to “trick” Vudu into thinking the display is 4K to use Atmos with Vudu. I read about it on avs in the x700 thread but DSU and dtsnx are good enough for rentals even though I WAS really pumped about it.

So that means your particular Netflix app in that unit doesn't support Atmos? Even tho the unit can support such in other ways/content....

I have read of this correlation with certain levels of video passing certain levels of audio....which seems ridiculous to me but not sure how rooted in fact it is.

Yep. Apparently Netflix only allows certain devices to use it. Absolutely no idea how or why that was thing. I imagine the board meeting that decided that was a cluster of sorts.
I also think it’s totally stupid to pass only certain audio with certain video. Can’t imagine any benefits... Seems to me the more people that can utilize immersive audio the better. As much as I’d like a new huge OLED, I’m happy to wait and use up mixing, or just buy titles I want and be done.

The only sense I can make of distinction of audio vs video is for pricing plans....you want this you need this package type marketing

I could see that too. But in the case of Vudu, the price is mostly always the same so idk... Appletv and others might be different. I think type of tiered structure sukks!!! It’s kinda like a form of extortion. Lol

Exactly! Before you know it, you realize they don’t even use lube anymore...[emoji20]
They definitely have it all figured out. I’d like to dump dish, but my wife is used to a lot of the programming, and it can be pretty nice especially with the DVR and commercial skip features. But it’s stupid expensive.

Ok, so I’ve no Atmos on any streaming apps on my TV. Netflix, prime or Disney plus.

Ive changed audio output on my TV to auto from PCM but this did nothing.

My only sound mode options are -

DD
DD + Dsur
DD + Neu:X
MCh stereo
Mono Movie
Virtual
Stereo

I am hearing sound from the ceiling speakers when on DD + Neu:X only.

From reading your helpful replies I’m starting to think my TV doesn’t support Atmos. I’m thinking a chromecast ultra or Apple TV 4K streamer might help, with the chromecast being significantly cheaper.

The other option is a new TV. Which is happening anyway as I need one for a different room.

On ‘Input Assign’ my TV Audio is set to HDMI as X then Digital, Analog and Video as -

I don’t know what it was on last night but currently all of the DD’s sound great.

I’ve also turned up the central speaker a little

Sounds good, but definitely needs the sub.
just hope the subs good enough when the cable arrives.

One thing I did notice during Audyssey is one of the speakers sounded different to the rest. Didn’t snap like the rest during the strange sound. I will swop it out with another speaker and see what happens.

When you get the subwoofer connected, be sue to turn of Dyn EQ, but do make sure the wife is out shopping when you do that..

Ive just checked the Sony website and my TV does support Dolby Digital Plus.
