Would you buy a $1,500 warranty on a $4,500 piece?
That's really the question here, should one pays $1,500 [33%] extra for a warranty on an audio receiver that costs $4,500? Here's my 2 cents:
(1) If the receiver is so unreliable requiring $1,500 in "just-in-case" support cost, why is it being sold for $6,000!!!!!! There's a logical contradiction here.
(2) It's absolutely false to say that authorized dealers know what they're talking about, train their staff, or provide better service and this holds for both big chains as well as small so-called specialist audio shops. We often are relegated to poorly paid & poory trained sales rep who, through no fault of their own, are often clueless.
(3) No jury or judge would absolve Denon or any other from selling faulty products or from failure to police their own supply channel.
(4) It's illegal to artificially fix the price of goods. Publishers failed in court after court to force consumers to pay the same high price for books. Yes, that killed the small, cute bookshops, but gave consumers $millions in lower prices.
(5) Sooner or later, the channel with the lowest cost wins. If in doubt, ask Tower Records and Blockbuster.
Just in case, let me say it loud: I'm buying a Denon 5805.
