While the loudspeaker manufacturer DALI is not best known for their subwoofers, they do have a handful of subs available that look fairly typical and reasonably designed. Their existing offerings look competent, but, on the surface, they don’t do anything that sets those products apart from competing manufacturers. That is about to change with the launch of their new flagship subwoofer, the V-16 F. The V-16 F looks to be a serious engineering project that pushes the state-of-the-art forward in subwoofer design with a slew of new technologies. It’s a large subwoofer with a not-insignificant price tag intended for large rooms or very high-output and deep bass applications. Read our preview to see what DALI has done to push subwoofer technology forward.

Super cool! Thank you @shadyJ ! It’ll be even cooler if you get one to take out on the playground for testing. :D

How long until Purifi releases their own Subwoofer Drivers?!?? ;)

Thanks. Definitely do a review. Love the look of that woofer. I want that ragged element surround look like I want blue meters. Very cool.

Great! Just what the world needed… Another overpriced subwoofer. Hey, they’ve got some very cool tech in this thing, but, I’m sorry, I’m not spending $6,000 on a single subwoofer. That is absurd.

You can buy two of those Rythmik servo subs for $6K. That’s four 15 inch subwoofers and a total of 3,600 real world watts.

Which do you think will move more air (not a trick question)?

Looks interesting and definitely a sub for a high end system where space is a constraint, such a small ported sub.

At the end of the write up it’s mentioned that European speaker manufacturers are starting to take subwoofers seriously. I know it would be epically expensive but I want to see what Focal could bring to market if they chose to.

Might be good for Europe but I can’t imagine that being worth $6-7k in America. Never seen one with four ports in that layout very unique. Wonder how much Xmax it has?
16mm of one-way linear excursion and 35mm of one-way maximum mechanical excursion
Hmm? Is that good for this price point? I expect it sounds very good to justify this price.. I can’t dream of affording one but it looks pretty powerful.

16mm of Xmax is not absolutely huge, but it's not bad. A lot of how good Xmax is depends on other parameters too. Also, there are different ways to determine Xmax, some conservative and some that can yield greater numbers. My guess is that DALI is using a conservative method to state Xmax.

Will you test the xmax figure?
