PCM is letting the PS3 do the decoding, that's why your avr shows multi-ch. Bitstream is how you send the codec to the avr for decoding....but in the PS3 it's not bitstream DTS vs Dolby, just LPCM vs Bitstream in the BD/DVD settings (in my slim PS3 at least). In some cases my PS3 will send PCM anyways, in the case of certain streaming content, Amazon for example, as I have general audio settings set to auto. I believe if I take away the LPCM options in that sound menu of output settings, it will force it back to DTS/Dolby but it's been a while since I messed with it...
Yep that's right. I've always preferred my player to decode. I don't recall what the setting options are in my Fat PS3 but in the old days(maybe still) bitstream wouldn't allow menu button sounds and second audio like director commentary over film. I used to stream Netflix through it and it worked good. Haven't done prime yet. I won't worry about bitstream until I go atmos. Unless that's changed, atmos has to be sent via bitstream.

During the day, a projector would be a stretch, but It could work. I have been scheming for a projector and a screen in the 120"-130" range. Loving my plasma for now, and despite the distance, it doesn't seem terribly small.

Those studios are the studio II from about 2002. Designed by Greg timbers, the original studios had copper colored drivers and both versions were offered in a beech color which I like more. I've seen you post about your 5 series and I've been meaning to ask what you thought. Until the last couple years I've not found a compelling enough reason to replace mine for a price I would consider reasonable. While there not perfect, I find they sound great on a lot of different material, and although the tweeters are titanium, they were made by an outfit in France(iirc) and are very revealing without being fatiguing like some can. They will break up if you lean on them really hard, but until that point they're very good. The S-38 I use as surrounds, and many guys have used them for mains. They're mirror paired horizontal monitors, but I have tried them vertical. They image like crazy and re enforce why I like monopoles for surround duty. They are huge though and stick out 18" from the wall. No. I don't care! My wife...well...
You'd said as much but curious how you like yours and if you'd elaborate a little on your 5 series studios. I've looked at them a lot, and think they'd be nice to live with. Zieglj01 has mentioned them too. I've been dreaming about some tritons. In my former life, I could actually have afforded some not these days. Windy...

Here's the back just for reference.(old pic) It's in a new color now after 12 years but I don't have any shots yet.
Even nicer. You have a very cozy, comfortable looking living room. Very nice.

I really like the way the cylinders look in the back. Almost decorative.
Thanks. I liked em there too. I had them there initially for the tactile effects, and being on concrete every bit helps. They're "back to the front" now and I haven't Been able to spend any QT with them, but the little I did showed better extension. So many plans...lol

I mean the low pass on the sub itself.. I tried it 3 ways .. one was maximum.. then I changed it to the middle .. then I took it all the way down.. I have no LPF setting that I noticed anywhere.. but from what I noticed it seems not by pass the low filter altogether for there were different result.. the best one i experienced is the latter
@Hasan Alnajdi, do you still have your low pass all the way down? If you do (if I understand correctly), you're canceling out the low pass setting in the crossover set by your avr. If you prefer it the way you have it now, you could experiment with a lower crossover setting in your avr and turn the low pass on your sub all the way to the right (max setting, should be labeled "using lfe in" or something like that. I have to look at the pic of yours again to be sure).

IMO/IME, it's better to just let the receiver set the filters. If my thinking is correct, you're not getting anything in the bass region between "x" (the lowest setting on your sub) and 80hz right now. Someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about that.

There are some differences in ability to handle codecs between the fat and slim, my limit is I can't do 3d and Dolby TrueHD at the same time via bitstream; Netflix comes thru as DD+. Atmos don't have any gear for anyways...

Had to run a trail crew up the mountain, didn't have time to answer earlier about the Studios I've got.

I picked up the 590s on a killer sale (900 delivered, noticed on JBL's site the other day they're $475 ea, not sure about shipping tho) mostly as I wanted to try something from JBL again as I was a big fan of the L100s and other JBLs of the day back when I was in high school, plus I wanted to try a compression driver/horn as I'd always had soft dome tweeters before. At first I mixed those in as L/R with my Sierra-1s (w/ NrT tweets) as center and wides and even though I expected them not to mesh well, they did. Then Phil (speakerman) was selling a set of 530s with a 520....now they're the fronts in the main room and the Sierras are in my bedroom. Really like the way these Studios sound and they image really well and the few times I crank it these days they have not disappointed at all.

I had thought about just building a set of diysg Fusions or similar for my next speakers but these were such a good price and I had gotten busy with the shuttling....I moved the diysg project down the road but someday...

LOL sorry about the thread hijack. We're talking about these speakers and their little brothers particularly.

The other speakers I'm referring to building would be something like these from diysoundgroup.com (abbreviated on forums as diysg often).

Since we're in full hijack mode, here's some pics of my van and the crew I've been shuttling this weekend up to various trails around here scouting and clearing some of our mountain bike trails for the upcoming season, or at least as far up the road as I could take them....

Its a simple question but the answer might be tricky.. what is the difference between infinity and undefined? As a concept not a math equation.. ie what do they mean mathimatically?

Mountain biking is great fun, and living in the middle of a huge forest (about 1/3 the size of your country) surrounded by great trails is awesome!
You better make the most of it then.. you have no idea what we're missing here (should I say envy :))

One interesting concept I learned about infinity in my googling/researching is that there are different infinities.

To illustrate, take an infinite stream of numbers in numerical order, then just pick out all the prime numbers. Both sets of numbers are infinite, but one will always larger than the other.

You're biking trails are in a very beautiful part of the country HD, though I haven't been in snow in many years... There are some great trails out here in the desert too. I think you'd enjoy it as well.
