I think i get what you're saying .. but before I go and buy something else I mean to drive what I have to the limit .. not extreme limit though .. for now I feel the sound is more than good enough.. the sound is clear and loud just right where I want it.. if something breaks then I'll buy something better..

Good to push them to find limits/characteristics. You probably don't get the choices in subs we have in the US, tho....

Hard to say as the bean counters and new tech/features aren't always kind to reliability or even viability for the long term. I think if you provide good ventilation or even add cooling fans you are doing what you can to make their lifetime as long as possible. I use cooling fans on mine that are in tighter spaces. Yamaha leads the pack in reliability these days which is a plus.

To add to what HD said, speakers can last a lifetime if cared for properly and not over driven. I had my old B&W's for almost 20 years and they still work great.

My subs and speakers are gonna be replaced definitely..it's only matter of when

I am now saving my money for the oled tv.. I am a sony guy I always have been but the main dealer went broke and you can't find any new Sony equipment in the country.. Lg are the only available option right now

I gotcha. HD covered the electronics, I just threw in the bit about speakers. If/when you find the ones you like you can keep them a long time and they'll give you decades of use. Powered subs are a little different tho.

Thanks pogre, I appreciate the words. It is a LR but I've spent a lot of time with setup, so while it's not perfect, performance is pretty good if I do say so myself. I can't even let my wife claim all of the design work lol.

Dark enough for a projector! My room is too light in the day to get away with it, have to someday build one in the basement. Which Studio speakers are you using? This last summer I got a set of 590s L/R, 520c, 530 surrounds, like them a lot.

During the day, a projector would be a stretch, but It could work. I have been scheming for a projector and a screen in the 120"-130" range. Loving my plasma for now, and despite the distance, it doesn't seem terribly small.

Those studios are the studio II from about 2002. Designed by Greg timbers, the original studios had copper colored drivers and both versions were offered in a beech color which I like more. I've seen you post about your 5 series and I've been meaning to ask what you thought. Until the last couple years I've not found a compelling enough reason to replace mine for a price I would consider reasonable. While there not perfect, I find they sound great on a lot of different material, and although the tweeters are titanium, they were made by an outfit in France(iirc) and are very revealing without being fatiguing like some can. They will break up if you lean on them really hard, but until that point they're very good. The S-38 I use as surrounds, and many guys have used them for mains. They're mirror paired horizontal monitors, but I have tried them vertical. They image like crazy and re enforce why I like monopoles for surround duty. They are huge though and stick out 18" from the wall. No. I don't care! My wife...well...
You'd said as much but curious how you like yours and if you'd elaborate a little on your 5 series studios. I've looked at them a lot, and think they'd be nice to live with. Zieglj01 has mentioned them too. I've been dreaming about some tritons. In my former life, I could actually have afforded some not these days. Windy...

I ran some tests on ps4 and there was 3 option for audio formats: linear PCM, Bitstream Dolby, and Bitstream DTS.. naturally I chose dts but it only go up to 5.1.. i also tried dolby digital track and it's been transcoded to dts (gotta say a lot of sound been lost in the process).. guess the kids getting their toy back after all

You know for what it worth.. wdtv live is the best damn player i ever had... i through everything on it and it just says will do! Its an amazing device i have no idea why the hell wd discontinued it!!

PCM is letting the PS3 do the decoding, that's why your avr shows multi-ch. Bitstream is how you send the codec to the avr for decoding....but in the PS3 it's not bitstream DTS vs Dolby, just LPCM vs Bitstream in the BD/DVD settings (in my slim PS3 at least). In some cases my PS3 will send PCM anyways, in the case of certain streaming content, Amazon for example, as I have general audio settings set to auto. I believe if I take away the LPCM options in that sound menu of output settings, it will force it back to DTS/Dolby but it's been a while since I messed with it...
