Comcast and I have finally come to terms.

Finally, I can pay my comcast bill without bile and anger welling up from deep inside. I actually don't feel ripped off any more.

For one bundled price, we get.

1) Phone service with features comparable to what I had with Verizon.

2) High-speed Internet which feeds three computers and a wireless internet ready Blu-Ray player.

3) Cable TV with great picture, HD in two out of four rooms, virtually all movie and sports channels, with on-demand, and basic cable in the other two at no additional charge. (let the guests fend for themselves.)

4) This is the kicker. We travel at least one weekend a month and every place we stay has free high-speed wireless internet. We can access comcast on the internet via our laptops and have access to on-demand features from anywhere. No more constantly flipping through 200 local channels with nothing on.

The price has not changed in two years. Now that FIOS has arrived, it provides excellent leverage. When it does go up, I call Comcast, speak to their "retention" specialist, and explain that we are very satisfied with what we have and can live with the price we're currently paying. (I don't mention # 4 ) I let them know that if they raise the prices, I'll actively look into other options. It doesn't need to be said that we both know that other providers offer great incentives to switch o them. That's all it takes.

So, as long as everything stays the same, we'll be happy campers.

I called them and told them Dish was offering a much better package than what I had with them for about $40 less/month and they told me not only would they not lower my rate, they offered me a comparable package to what Dish was offering for more than twice what I was currently paying \

Needless to say, I now have Dish.

You are lucky you live in an area with competition.

I have tried several times throughout the years and Comcast has called my bluff every time

They are willing to lose a customer more than I am willing to go without broadband.

But they know my only other option is satellite and 640K DSL

But I still will not give them my phone service. The cable goes out all the time taking internet and their phone service with it.

My land-line has not failed even once in 20 years.

Great HD picture and Comcast don't go together. Comcast's HD picture is the worst I've seen. I dumped them as soon as Fios was available in my area.

Before FIOS came here, I hd Hi speed internet and TV, no phone. My tactic then was to threaten to drop TV, go satellite, and only use them for internet and let the know that Vonage was an option, which would not bring them any additional revenue.

They do not like losing a level of service.

Of course, once FIOS hit here and I first stated negotiations, I wound up with all I had, plus phone service, for about $10/month less than they wanted me to pay for the first two alone!!!

So far, in the two years I've been using them I've lost phone service once for a few hours. I have lost service on Verizon on several rare ocasions over the past, too. and, the HD (and SD) picture quality is pretty good here.

I've never had a problem with my AT&T land line either, but then again I can't recall the last time I used the land line either. It is only there for DSL. I called and told them I wanted a dry loop and they offered to basically discount both DSL and the line so that I wouldn't cancel it.

I have AT&T U-Verse and a DirectTV. AT&T U-Verse for Internet and TV, and DirectTV for more TV. (And I don't watch TV...so, I have no idea why I have both...hm...hehe)

The U-Verse for internet at the highest speed (24 down) I get 22 down, and is 60 bucks a month on it's own.

My AT&T phone line, after you get through the taxes, which I only have because of my alarm system.... is $70. It's like $14, but then after this tax and that tax, it's $70.

So, I pay more for a damn landline than ultra high speed internet. Figure that out.

They seem plenty willing to lower my service level as that's the only options I ever get from Comcast to reduce my bill.
