I'm kinda glad it didn't come down to UNC against U Conn. I went to both schools. I was an undergrad at UNC, and later went to grad school at U Conn.

I never felt much connection with U Conn, the main campus was about 60 miles away from the medical center where I was. It never felt like a university campus there.

And during my time there, U Conn had small time sports programs. I don't remember a thing about them. When I went to UNC, they had great basketball teams, going to the Final Four 3 years straight (1967-69) but never winning the championship. So ever since being there, I've always rooted for them. They looked great tonight, but then so did Michigan State.

UNC is the clear favorite. They beat MSU in the same arena by 35 in December.

But MSU surprised me by beating who I thought was the best team in the tourney. Still It's hard to go against the balance of UNC. I just hope it's a great game this year.

Oh yeah and it makes for one intense rivalry. ;);) If nothing else, lots of good conversation............LOL!!!!:eek: Very good question if you ask me.

Cheers,

Phil
I just don't get how Billy G didn't get you in the final four. He's a great coach and built Texas A&M from nothing to a perennial tourney team.

Calipari though will have a Roy Williams like effect for Kentucky. Especially in the SEC. They have 2 other great programs in that conference, but neither is making the tourney these days. Kinda sad. I liked the old Arkansas-Kentucky rivalry days.

I wonder what happens to Zona. The guy got them to the sweet 16 in the tourney with no pre-season. I think they should have given him a job.

UNC 83 Villanova 69!!

And now its down to Carolina vs. Michigan State… go Tarheels.
Things are looking very good for UNC. However, M. State is no push over. That is, a much improved team since the last time they played UNC back in December. More specifically, M. State has really stepped up their defense and they will come to play. In the end, however, you can bet UNC will triumph!

Cheers,

Phil

I'm not a huge sports fan, but I'll throw in my support for MSU as I grew up in the Big Ten. I'd rather it was Illinois, but MSU is cool, too.
Yeah, Tom Izzo is a great coach!!!! M. State is going to be tough to beat. It should be a great game. One that is very up-tempo and high energy. However, UNC will prevail!!!! Next year, however, you can count KY will be in the mix after acquiring Calipari. ;);) At least, that is my hope anyways. :p:p

Phil

Very much agreed. It should be a great game. Just can't wait to see it. In the ned, however, UNC will win it all!!!!!! Okay maybe not, but that is who I am rooting for since KY is out of the mix. Next year though, you can bet KY will be in the mix. Calipari is already making changes from the ground up. ;);)

I agree. UNC has great balance, but also depth. Not to mention, one of the, if not the best, active coaches going today. In other words, UNC just has a complete package and Roy Williams just knows how to bring all of the "magic" together. It will be one heck of a game though as M. State is not the same team they were this past December. I assure you there will be no 30 plus point spread in this one. ;);) My guess is it will remain close during the 1st half. However, in the 2nd half UNC will wear M. State down and pull ahead down the stretch. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Well, here is my take on Billy G. From what I garner, he failed at recruting the best talent from the get go. What surprises me here, is that is what he was known for.:confused: Second, Billy G. never seemed to serve as a role model/ambassador to the winningest program in college bb. In fact, he came across as a smart a$$ most of the time that did NOT gel with most KY fans. Lastly, rumor has it his drinking was getting out of hand both on and off the court. This may explain his half witted approach to his job. More or less, Billy G. was a flop. John Calipari will bring KY back to where it usually is-that being on top! :):) Personally, I can't wait myself. There is a new sheriff in town and his name is Calipari. Sweeping changes are already in place. The new recruits look promising of which is a 7-footer.

Tonight is the big dance. Who will prevail? My guess it will be UNC to win it all. Of course, I have been saying that all season long. ;):p;) Will I be right? We all will know soon enough. I must say it will, however, be an uphill battle as Michigan State is no push over. Gosh, I am so excited! :D:D Feel free to make a prediction. After all, it is all in the name of fun. :):)

That is great! Not sure just yet where I placed, but it is going to be very close. Fortunately, I have won a pizza so far. ;);) Perhaps, some money as well.

What a great game? Only if you are a Carolina fan. Other than Villanova-Pitt and Mich St-Kansas last weekend, it seems like every game since the first weekend has kind of sucked. This is the worst NCAA tourney I can remember.

Congrats to all Heels fans ,they are the best no doubt,I being a die hard Philly fan rooted on Nova but there was no stopping UNC they looked like they could beat most NBA teams.I would never say this about pro sports but with Nova , at least they made it as far as they did and played some really great games along the way Good stuff all around , Lets go Phillies.....

Well, who would have thought Arizona would even make the tournament, let alone making it to the Sweet 16.:eek: Look at M. State dethroning (2) #1 seeds. That was quite impressive. I did not have Nova making it quite as far as they did. Still yet, look at Sienna. For the most part, there were some surprises, but UNC has been my pic all season long to win it all. As previously mentioned, picking UNC is not really "going out on a limb" so to speak. ;):D;)

Yeah, Nova has lots to be proud of. I did not have them going as far as they did. However, Wright is just one heck of a coach. He is a true motivator as has proven he is among the best of the best imho. UNC just has too much talent and depth to be stopped. BTW, KY will be in that mix next year-you can count on it. There is a new sheriff in the BIG BLUE NATION and his name is Calipari!!!! ;);) Hence, the bar has been raised. :):)

I personally enjoyed the tournament. The best game by far was watching Nova beat the snot out of UCLA. They deserve the final four for putting on that clinic. As UNC put on a clinic last night.

Greatness isn't just measured in close games. It's truly measured in great performances. One of the best games I've ever seen in person was a blowout of my own college. But the guys for the other team put on a clinic and just beat them down.

Next up Cavs winning the NBA title over the Lakers.
