This kit has proven to be pretty capable and reliable over time. Right now, I have it hooked up to my JBL S312s and a budget Aiyima tube preamp, using BT via my phone and Spotify. I haven't noticed any noise or audible gremlins that the handwringing measurement faction tends to inflict on this hobby. It has more than enough power, really.
It's been so satisfactory, in fact, that I am entertaining building a set of
higher power mono-blocks in custom cases just for the heck of it, and instead of the usual little imported aluminum boxes. I was actually holding out for something based on Hypex or Purify, but truth be told, I have been sonically pleased with the Icepower kit that I already have. In spite of which might be hands down better quality, I'm not complicated or nerdy enough to really be able to audibly tell the differences. As long as the preamp has tone controls, I'm pretty much good with just about anything, these days, as long as there is ample headroom.
Anyway, just to report I am still using this kit amp and that it somehow manages to instill a sense of quality. Turns out that just like about everything else I have, it's still mostly about the speakers, as it always has been, for me at least.
