I saw it and couldn't tell you offhand if the picture was much better than regular lamp-based systems. They claimed the technology auto-adjusts for the color LEDs which degrade over time - I have a technical contact to get the skinny on the system later this year.

Cliff, the color controllers for LED backlit TVs are made by Avago Technologies. Here's one example -
