hey everyone... i've been buying my first 5.1 setup, and the center channel is the last speaker i need to round out everything. so far, i've been looking at the BIC DV62CLRS, which seems to have excellent value. is this a good way to go, or do you have other suggestions?

What do you have for everything else? It is best to match at least the fronts if not all the speakers with a similar model from the same brand.

I'm happy with mine. Keep in mind it is pretty big and rear ported.

thanks for the tip... how far away from the wall is optimal for a rear-ported speaker?

I've never listened to BIC, however you really should match your center to your mains, otherwise you're gonna run into timbre issues. If not the same line, at least the same manufacturer.

my current mains are technics SB-CR77's (really old and boomy).... unfortunately i'll have to stick with them for now and get new mains when i get the funds, so should i just disregard any mismatching or timbre issues?

I would try to get a center to match whatever speakers you hope to get to replace the boomy technics. As you can see, I currently have mismatched mains and center, but will have matching ones for my new theater area.

The BIC is a nice choice, then you can get some 62's towers or bookshelves for mains when you can.
