Carver's pair of Black Beauties

With you there 100%. But at 100 plus posts in with him and the threads where very civil.

I can't speak to motives with authority, but the threads stood on their own merit. It was most likely to prove that we would shout someone down like they do there. That obviously didn't happen. And getting one's nose out of joint over the chicklet system? That is a bit laughable as are the people that posted a bunch of negative rep.

Still the Ask Bob Carver was pretty cool and I am dismayed at some of the ulterior motives brought up. Bob Carver doesn't need to go around pan handling like some beggar to get a one off build of his sold. The thought about it violating the TOS around here is ABSURD.
As one who frequents both sites and from the posts that I read from John. I think he was being genuine. There are different cultures going on between CP and AH. There is value in both viewpoints. Comments made in the past over there shouldn't reflect on what he's posted here unless there is evidence to suggest such. I haven't been looking, but I haven't seen any. I think he wanted to share and debate. I'm all for it. As to Bob Carver, I haven't met or conversed with him, but know those who have. Seems like a great guy that's taking time to answer questions on theory on a For Sale posting. I'm sure he'd rather directly answer questions related to his amps there, but he's nice enough to field queries, since it didn't work out here. Kind of sad.

5 days ago I was still thinking about them, now I know it is beyond my reach. I may build my own one day.:D

Not bad if it sells for this much. I mean, it's a **** ton of money for a crappy high output impedance tube amp... but uh.... it is one of a kind with tons of power right?

$6200
Yep. A **** ton of money none of us have, but 48 other people in this world seem to think it's worth it.

And no one here seems to like Bob's Sunfire amps, but yet a used 2-channel went for over 2k the other day. And a used Sunfire tube pre went for over 1k.

Just say in.

This is probably a more equivalent product (pricing from Audiogon bluebook):
Carver Silver 7 mkII : Used Prices
New List: $25000.00
Not enough data to graph
Used avg: $9490.00
Carver Silver 7 mkII
released 1993, 375w x 1, tube monoblocks
I have to say that for me some of the appeal would be that it is a fairly unique product (not mass produced) that Bob Carver actually had a hand in building. However, I could not seriously consider owning them, simply because of the inconvenience of dedicating that much space to two channels of amplification in a non-stackable form factor.

Man, I was very close.

Yeah! Good job!

I have little experience with ebay, and was at the computer at the right time, so I just watched the last 5 minutes of the auction.
Bidding was completely dead at $6200 until the last minute then two bidders tried to snipe it at about the same time (16s and 23s into the last minute) and the higher of these two bidders won.
Interestingly, neither of these last minute snipers was a previous bidder!
I always kind of wonder what the point of bidding on an item 5 days before the close is (unless, like I did, you're just after the cheap thrill of quasi-ownership for a brief spell, lol).
It would be interesting to know what the winner had set as max bid.

Nothing ticks me off more than some low baller driving the price of an item I'm watching up two days early. Good for the seller I guess.

I put in a few bids thinking like this hey if I win I would be the envy of the forum and get to enjoy them immensely, share all thoughts and so on, if I lose it is only to some one that wants them more than I, so after 3000 dollars I knew I didn't need them, ever.I probably knew that way before it got to 3000 but hey it was worth a shot.
I really like EMO products :)

Sawz, we need to talk more often man! If you bid till 3000 then your the guy I was bidding against for a while!!! I stopped at 4000. We all should have flipped a few coins for who bids from here instead of bidding against each other. :D

You've never heard tubes, have you?

Here's an actual in room response, measured near-field with 1/48th octave smoothing, using a much less expensive, relatively low powered, pp class A biased tube amp having high output impedance:

That's a measurement of a full range driver, by the way; a true active system, no passive crossover parts. You would be lucky to do so well.
